It's NOT gay. Like other elite units in other armies, they are allowed to dress differently, eg. they are allowed to have beards, visible chests...and tight clothes (that women happen to like).

Most of them are ultra right wing, some of them have nazi tatoos, there is plenty of drugs and fights between them. Many probably have mental issues. But having half-crazy soldiers are part of the reason why these units exist. They will do what no other soldier would be willing to do.
