My cousin just moved to the States and found work in his field within 2 weeks, after bumming around Canada for 2 years upon graduation. Something really doesn't add up. In Canada, there seems to be a huge discrepancy between the unemployment rate they advertise, and the reality on the street. Truthfully,I think the unemployment rate of Canada consistently hovers around 25%. Governments fudge the numbers to look more in line with the US, so they can attract more immigrants. I mean, if you take a look around, there's just not much happening. There really aren't many Canadian companies doing anything of significance.

So in truth, a lot of immigrants have been duped by false promises. Their first clue should have been all the homeless people around Canadian cities. Canada is not a truly first world, developed nation. It's all smoke and mirrors.

The housing bubble would collapse, and the development of rural areas would stop. It's tough to say. If youve done any internships or coops during your undergrad, that will certainly help. Just remember that you're competing with every other canadian engineer. But engineers tend to enjoy high employment here. Look into larger cities like vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and montreal. That's where all the jobs are.
