Unfortunately yes, It's thought in all schools and is is one of the necessary cord subjects along with math and English. Like you've seen in the video however it is a near dead language in all but a few places.

For example if you where to speak Irish to me now, I wouldn't be able to answer you and most that could could only answer tourist tier questions like 'what is your name?' or 'how are you?'.
