I'm doing research for University and I was looking into the Finnish concept of Sisu. Does Finland operate differently than the rest of Europe? Is it more collectivist? Also do you think the concept of Sisu exists in other Western countries? The big similarity to me was the similarity with the Japanese outlook on the world.

>Is it more collectivist?

i was wondering because of how from what i've seen regarding the way society functions i.e on public transport and being seen as more introverted.
With power of Sisu we make greatest memes on earth
>Also do you think the concept of Sisu exists in other Western countries?
Absolutely it does.

But collectivists literally act the opposite in public transport??????
A need for private space and isolation is inherently individualistic.
You've got your concepts mixed up big time.

i would argue that. I went to high school in Japan and on the trains everyone is extremely quiet and acts in a similar way to what you describe. Japan is quite obviously collectivist.
piss off

We have Asian genes so Japanese behavior for example is norm for us.
Too bad Asian genes also brings you small wiener also.

It's not the same thing.
Japanese don't talk in public transport because it's packed full anyway and they can barely breathe. Japan is a very social culture and being social is a part of their collectivist mentality, they are forced to go drinking together with their co-workers and bosses and sing kareoke. In Finland that would be criminal to deny someone of their right to use their free time in an individualistic way.
Japan=ultra colllectivist
Finland=ultra individualist

i see your point. But even when the trains are almost empty its the same way. It isn't crowded out in rural japan(where i lived). So if we agree its ultra individualist, can you still agree that Finland is different than most other western nations in terms of how people interact?

Finns just act reserved around strangers but I don't think there's a really big difference in that regard vs. Scandinavia at least.

okie thanks for your time
SISU you say?:D
Fun fact: Sometimes you see them with the "I" and "U" switched.
SUSI = WOLF = fubar or incredibly unreliable, when speaking of machinery.

>Finland=ultra individualist
DonĀ“t flatter yourself. Daily reminder: our tax rate is extremely high, our civil liberties are weak (strict gun laws, "hate speech" legislation, wide-reaching police investigatory powers), our political arena is dominated by "social democracy" (thinly veiled socialism), and the average Finn always pleads official authority for help when faced with adversity of any kind - be it a small neighborly dispute, a business dispute or a violent confrontation.
Finland is no more individualist than the average old world nation.
