It's not possible (as far as I know) to post from China without a pass. The first issue is the captcha, which, because it's from Google, it won't even load. Even if you use a VPN temporarily to complete the captcha and then turn off your VPN, I don't think your post will go through without a 4chinz pass, as I think Chinese IPs are blocked from posting without one (which is the situation for many uncommon countries on 4chan).

I think a big problem that some people have is that they try to learn similar-sounding words that use the four different tones at the same time. For example, if you try to learn 妈,麻,马,骂 (and 吗) at the same time, you're probably going to have a hard time remembering which tone belongs to which, because you haven't had time to familiarize yourself with each word individually and will likely struggle between the choices. In English, imagine learning contract (the noun) and contract (the verb) at the exact same time. The two words have different pronunciations and different meanings. So why would you try to learn those two words at the exact time? You'll just confuse yourself. Let yourself be familiar with one word before moving on to the next. Don't think of them as apart of a group, think of them as individual words.

Of course, I'm talking about memorization and you might be talking about pronunciation. Pronunciation is just practice.

Malaysian here. Malaysian Chinese these days are taught to use simplified, but the older generation were largely taught traditional so you may still see them around on signs and things, and in bookstores like Popular you can find books like light novels written in traditional because they were originally for the Hong Kong and Taiwan market.

Malaysian accented Mandarin is affected strongly by dialects such as Hokkien and Cantonese, as the Chinese in Malaysia are largely descended from Southern Chinese immigrants from Fujian, Guangdong etc. You still get older Chinese here who speak dialect a lot, although it's dying out among the younger generation who learn Mandarin in the Chinese vernacular schools. But the younger generation is learning from an older generation who speak with a heavy accent, and pick up habits as a result like turning zh-, sh- and ch- into z-, s-, and c-, and omitting 儿 endings.

There are also vocabulary differences that come from dialects, (e.g. using 几时 instead of 什么时候, 5:45pm might be 五点九个字 instead of 五点四十五分, tendency to use 才 instead of 再, use of 什么来的), others just because terms evolved separately (e.g. 计算机 means calculator in Malaysia whereas in China it means computer).

I personally find that I can generally understand the Mandarin spoken in China, same way I can understand a Londoner even though I didn't learn English in London.
