what happens here?
is red area as cold as norway, or close to it?
are there people living in green area?
>>
you don't really get cold if you're by the sea, norway actually has fair temperatures. see its the mountains and steppe in russia and southeast europe that get the coldest

nobody permanently lives in antarctica yet because theres an anti-settlement agreement that ends in 10 years or something. unless the ice all melts away into a lake of oil then it won't be interesting for a long time
>>
I've been to Ushuaia and it's cold but it's not Russia tier.
>>
>>70146645
Chilean patagonia is like central europe tier desu
>>
Still want to see someone post on /int/ from Antarctica or the Falklands.

>what happens here?
Meh tier cities with beautiful nature.

>is red area as cold as norway, or close to it?
Close, i find more similar to Alaska.

>are there people living in green area?
Yep, a bunch of internationals bases.
>>
>>70146645
red area is a little less cold than norway and it's also a lot more dry, so there isn't as much snow, there are still lots of icebergs though.
there are some bases in the green area but not any civilian settlements (civilians are allowed in though).

Happens a lot in Chile, also in Argentinian Tierra del Fuego, Santa Cruz and Chubut.

People just paint their houses with any color they feel like, you can see red, green, pink, lime, fucsia, blue etc. You can see entire blocks where every house has a different color.
Landscape is already depressing enough, plants and grass hardly grow, trees grow all crooked because of the +100 km/h winds all year long, there are like 3 sunny days per year only...so I guess that colorful neighborhoods cheer up people a little bit.

Totally... Trevelin in summer was depressing as fuck.

People in punta arenas an hero like it's fun. Makes sense to paint everything in bright colors. Not that is working tho

>>70148075

Mostly the same, but with "Patagonian pride", hating centralism and Santiago, shit like that.

Also there is a bunch of croatians, german and british descendant there from marines who stay.
>>
>>70149115
Nobody knows really. Mostly out of boredom IMO. Those remote places are nice and all but only when you visit. If you have to live there with permacold conditions, no sun, raging winds etc. it gets tough. Imagine never (ever in your life) been able to dress as you would like to because the weather would fuck you up.
>>
>>70149346
>>
>>70149422
Much like Canada's north I suppose. Cold, dark, and isolated. We have very high suicide rates up there
>>
>>70149422

>>
>>70149170

Germans immigrants in southern chili...

Welsh and italians in southern argentina., their culture is strong here, I mean, things like eisteddfod, welsh teas, and stuff..

Also Argentina is more like a desert, and in winter it's colder and windy that's why we don't used to go outside...
>>
>>70149522
I'm not from Pta Arenas but an ex was from there but living here in Santiago. We used to travel a lot there and it was great for me because I hike a lot and love fly fishing, but I got to know their reality and it's totally different having to endure that climate on a daily basis.

DELENDA EST PATAGONIA
>>
>>70149347
Do they speak their native languages or did they switch to Spanish?
>>
>>70149522
>>
>>70149743
They are muh heritage. They all speak spanish with their respective accents.

Switch, two generations and what is left it's only traditions, that happen a lot here with Germans, British or Arabic people. My grandparents are mostly germans/swiss and what is left it's some good food and weird greetings in familiars meetings.
>>
>>70147251
Dunno there but normally SA is not like Japan.

See in Japan english teachers know jack shit about japanese so they just make chinks talk in english and all that, if you understand good if not tough luck you should read more books with pointless knowledge.

Here in Uruguay at least that wouldn't work and since our teachers can actually speak english without problem unlike asian ones there's no point in bringing a foreigner if he can't speak spanish.

I assume it's the same for Argentina and Chile even if it's bumfuck argentina and chile
>>

You just get used to it, like everything in life.
After some time you just end up grabbing coat by reflex before going out even though it's january and technically the peak of summer.

If money was actually invested in Patagonia to make the quality of life here more human-like and less depressing, it could be the coziest place on earth. Sadly Argentina is too centralized in Buenos Aires so nobody gives a fuck.

>>70149814
>>
>>70149930
I'm also looking into teaching in Uruguay. By the time I go, my Spanish will be pretty good. Certainly not fluent, but able to get by. Is there a market for native English speakers to teach English in Uruguay?
>>
>>70149947
>>
>>70150018
Hmm, highschool teachers get paid jack shit here dunno why you'd want to work as one.

And assuming you have your title and all that you'll be able to give class(maybe they'll make you pass some tests first though and see how you adapt, I'm no expert in education), but like I said our teachers can normally speak in english with no problem so I don't think there's a high priority for it.

You could always work for alianza though but you'll have to look into that, and it's US english so no aboot for you.
>>
>>70150018
You've been told before. Try to get a contract in your country before you come around here. Maybe you could try your luck in eastern europe, southeast asia or china. Everywhere else is packed with english speakers.
