It's a non-question because there's no difference.
Russia has a higher population than any individual EU country, more political influence than any individual EU country, a more powerful military than any EU country other than maybe France and (if Poland and the like are any indication) after a decade or so of EU monnies will have by far the largest economy.
Russia joining the EU means Russia overtaking the EU. And its dominance will be far more complete because Russia overshadows Germany to a much more significant extent than Germany overshadows France.
Not that it's a bad thing, anything is preferable to a German led Europe.
