I often find myself on google maps walking through them. They just look so fucking comfy to live in. Is this the truly superior way of life? It's my dream to one day live in an affluent American suburb.

That's not always the case from my experience. But it's the whole atmosphere that attracts me, it's like a little bubble isolated from all the problems of the world. Everyone is white, middle class or upper class and everything is nice.

Not in the same way, atleast in Sweden. Here suburb is synonymous with immigrant ghetto. That said there are a few examples in the biggest cities but it's not as widespread as in America and they're not as isolated. Usually in Sweden, people live very connected and class differences aren't as noticeable. My high school had children from every class and walk of life.

It is "upper class", as much as upper class goes in a socialist cunt such as Norway and Sweden. Call it "upper academia class" if you will. But yeah, Norwegian cities are too small to have whole big areas/towns with exclusively upper class suburbs like they have in USA. It takes me like 5 minutes to drive to the city centre from my neighbourhood.

Is the whole high school atmosphere a meme or true? Is there a Chad football captain who fucks the cheerleader qt3.14

In Sweden people come to the high school from every part of the city and most people don't care for each other outside their group of friends. There are no activities or school spirit or anything and you go home right after classes.
>>
>>69956023
Brick houses are more common than you'd think. We use smaller, typically bricks instead of cinder blocks, though.

Like a lot of things here, it also depends on the region.
>>
>>69956347
Have you ever seen real brick houses? This is decorative one again.
>>
>>69956499
I don't really care
>>
>>69956436
Well you won't see it from above so it won't look as intimidating but I agree that every house being the same would be a little weird. Also there's a serious lack of trees and nature there but I guess it's somewhere in California or some other place where people really shouldn't be living.

This is much better >>69956170
>>
>>69956474
It's sad to know that the ones with big trees aren't more common, because I've seen it once or twice before in a movie or something and from memory it was comfy as fuck
>>
>>69956436
But if you look, there are noticeable differences between the houses, and these are more noticeable at ground level. And the mannequins with fake smiles thing is just silly. It's the kind of thing that promoted by young former suburbanites who use the media to show that they're more le deep than those chumps back in the suburbs.

The problem with suburbs is that you cannot go anywhere without a car. It feels sterile. Going to the nearest grocery store, fast food chain, and mall takes 40 min on foot or 15 on bike. Bus service is horrible here. Every day after work, I stay home and envy those who live in those brick apartments with a comfy radiator by the window, small kitchen, friendly neighbors, and a cozy small diner on the ground floor in downtown

be happy you dont have to pay a shitload for a license or gas

a German driver's license costs approx. 1.500€ and you have to do extra stuff like first aid courses, getting your eyes and mental health checked, mandatory theory and practice lessons (which may be more than average if you have a dick instructor who lets you fail at the slightest mistake) etc.
>>
>>69955162
they're alright, but it depends on how close you are to a city. if you're too far away it's just soul-less and boring. I come from a neighborhood with houses like pic related.

Suburbs are great for raising kids. They are virtually crime-free (if you choose right), by great schools, and the parents commute to work. Ignore stuff like >>69955242, politics depends heavily upon location, and at most you'll have a 50/50 split between politics, the rest leaning more conservative.

No offense to the other parts of the country, but they also produce the smartest sect of American society. Very white collar.

That being said, I cannot wait to get done with school and move to a city.

That is one of the reasons russians will always be considered hardy as fuck because they live in a winter hell year round, while less sturdy nationals like the french or germans die as soon as they try to make any decent headway in this familiar but foreboding wasteland.

Please no, american cities have the most unnatural city grids; you have to use a fucking car to navigate around.
American grids are also incredibly monotonous - everything looks the fucking same.

American cities are awful aside of the oldest ones.
The whole thing looks like a giant parking lot with no identity or space management, I don't even speak about the awful traffic gestion or the retarded rules (like the "stops" everywhere).

you have to drive a car to do stuff in the US, LOL

we just love our sustainable, walkable traditional cities.

I like watching movies that shit all over the suburbs. They're so unreal.
Oh, and american football stadiums, cheerleaders with pom-poms, guys wearing high school sports jackets, diners, coffee, waiters in teal uniforms, lemon pie, girls in tiny pink sweaters, nerds stuffed in lockers, closeted gay jocks. Home parties, homecoming dance, proper society ladies, husband mowing the lawn with a driveable lawn mower, ground sprinkler, the dog fetching the mail, little boys biking around in the back woods with aliens in baskets, aliens invading said small town, the military being useless, the big city with colored folks... (suburbs are white except for minorities, while in cities whites are the minority, except in the business district)

Maybe it's not real, but it is in the murrricah of my dreams.

>>

For me nothing, I'm rural
In average suburb they might have grass length rules, but your house can be any color
In HOA suburb, you must almost be uniform with other houses, so no.
>>
>>69960558
>to paint the house bright orange
depends. At the very least he/she would become the most unpopular person in the neighborhood. If your development has codes governing home appearance, then you could be forced to repaint it and/or receive financial penalties and possibly legal ramifications.

>or simply stopped mowing the lawn
you'll get fined
>>
>>69960034
Such as?
>>
>>69960558
It depends on the particular HOA (homeowners association). In my rural "covenant community," none of that would matter, but I can't put a trailer home on my property or leave my trash cans in front of my house.

Where to start?
Might help if you pick a category or something.

They fail to do their original intended task of having the best of both worlds. As originally the rich wanted to have the best of rural and city life with none of the down sides. The monstrosity result was had the wost of both.

They fractured building resources which incentives poor construction techniques that are now codified as the norm.

They helped create a whole new scale of shopping which in trun led to new marketing styles that evolved into the invacive ads we have today.

Those are just some that I thought of, but given the size and complexity it is proply easier to start at the end and trace it back to the.

It is like asking how electricty change things, were do you start and how do you even put that much information into words.

It's weird, while suburbs like OP do exist I always think of the suburbs as something like this. This is like 40 minutes outside of Boston.

Generally older burbs have a lot more trees, space between houses, etc.
>>
It was always my dream as a child. My parents weren't very normal (missionaries, I grew up overseas, came back at 7 years old then they moved into an urban, ghetto area to renovate a house so I ended up there).

A lot of my friends lived in suburban areas and didn't realize how good they had it. To have a close group of neighborhood friends to always play with, without any fear of the neighborhood, comfortable environment. It's ideal for a family.

The suburban model wasn't chosen arbitrarily. It's a lot of house, yard space, and enough neighbors to make life interesting, basically all that humans want.

One of the three time I was at gunpoint in USA was when I wanted to shorten my way to the beach in some shitty town in Mississppi and went through suburb. When I approached one house I triggered an automatic alarm with floodlight. Then some typically redneck guy ran out of his house with a shotgun, pointed at me and yelled why am I walking on his yard. When I apologized in broken English he moved his gun away and said something like "GTFO, commie". I think if I was black, he'd shoot me without any conversation.

Basically every suburbs that's >10 years old is not the same house copy/pasted 10,000 times however, and Californian style roofs tiles n plaster mold like op's pic are only functional in deserts, rain and or snow would destroy those houses after a couple years in any other part of the country

During WWII the military wanted buildings that could be made fast and cheap, but would last a few years. So after some interesting R&D they developed a new wood frame building that was much cheaper and easier to build than most traditional wood frame designs, as it was only rated to last 3 years. Well Levitt & Sons modified the designs to look more upscale, and started selling them to returning GI under the pitch that the everyman could now own a nice suburb home like the super rich, as suburbs were still limited at the time despite have been around for awhile. They became rich and famous and their plans and techniques were then used as a foundation in nearly all new designs. Later house fires and other deadly accidents would prompt new safety rules, but rather then requiring people to just build safe houses (as we had that ability for a very long time) they required newer safety measures in houses, thus in effect codifying future designs continue to use that flawed core. Such new safety measure included covering everything with asbestos to reduce fire risks, later we would slowly learn such forced tech solutions often created even more issues.
Had new city apartments or older family farms been more popular those designs would not have had the penetration they did. Our love from cheap suburbs like the rich spawned a building plague we are still dealing with today.

Because of the layout of the suburbs shopping shifted to large malls along highway junctions. Given that larger and larger groups of potential customers were now in higher and higher concentrations. Marketers changed how they operated to get maximum impact. A new type of mass mainstream marketing was created which became more and more aggressive as it made sense to spend a lot more on high density wide advance ads. Later the same key fundamentals developed for these large shopping malls would create the mess we have now.

Most people even in the US hate driving and are absolutely awful at it. And that's the problem with you Americans. You think you can build wood houses and then slap on an "aesthetic" with veneer. Even on those fake brick houses it's painfully obvious that they're not made from brick because they follow the same geometric and load bearing formulas as all your other houses. It's not a problem of brick, it's a problem of fake brick. An actual brick house will look completely different even shape-wise.

Because they were in a small closed off area and Zimmerbean didn't recognize Traytray as a local. I'm assuming he probably stood out in some different way to him. Gated communities aren't racialized but they're typically expensive so only people with money really live there regardless of their race. A shdy ghetto looking person walking around a gated community is going to stand out regardless. I don't know too much about the case but I imagine Zimbean probably noticed he didn't live there or something. Last I checked Zimmerman was also an overly aggressive guy too so he probably would have gone and approached anyone who looked "out of place".

Supply and demand. There's a lot of supply and only so much demand, so theoretically property value shouldn't play such a big role. And yet there you are with HOAs mandating the color of your front door or the height of your lawn or banning street parking because they fear that the property values would sink otherwise and they would die impoverished.

becuse supporting infustucture limits the land use.
There is lots of cheap land I could build on, but I want land near a road with water and electicy lines, also not too far from everthing else. After all those seach peramiterser are added there is not as many options as one would think. Also getting constuction crews to come out to nowhere cost a lot more, so the cost savings are not as attractive as the seem once you do the math.
Still buying and building out there is cheaper in terms of dollars.

its capitalism, every transaction is a bluff, both the buyer and the seller always believe they have gotten the better deal
and theres a new sucker born every day

the real good plan part of it is from the belief that you can inspect a home better than the person buying from you can or visa versa

only time can tell who actually made the better decision, hence why homes sometimes decrease in value, sometimes increase in value

If you want to be certain that the home you are buying is good, you either hire the best home inspector, or you buy a piece of fresh land and build your house (correctly) from scratch

every time you buy an asset as large as a house you are gambling that it will be worth more in the future than it is now, which as we all should know is not always the case

also youre tryiung to genertalize all of "america" as one real estate market, when its not, it never will be, it never was

different areas in different counties can be drastically different markets, not o mention different parts of different states, ectera

realestate is a local game, the larger the area, the more you generalize, the more innaccurate your assumptions are
