Vernacular Urbanism and the notions of what urbanism "should" be cannot align. Until African governments in Nigeria, Mozambique and other major or rising economies get that than we will repeat the same mistakes that have been made for the better part of the post colonial period.
Unless the needs of architecture and design answer to the needs and socio-cultural norms of it's newly urbanized and we stop glamourizing sky scrapers and luxury apartments we will not be able to fully expand our ideas of what African Urabnity will be.

Depend on the country, Botswana, Kenya (unless they get rekt by Somalis) and Tanzania are fine, Rwanda is decent as long as Kagame stays and keeps the country from war. Madagascar is very stable but somehow still stay the same and not develop.
