Why can't we just be friends?

Because we are irrational retards.

Agreed.
>>
>>69913657
>>69913712
Well McCain made the case the each recent President tried to break through with Russia and Putin and each failed, why?

Well according to McCain it's because Russia believes their interests lie in weakening America and therefore our interests can never be aligned as one because for Russia to succeed the US must fail

Then I realized that the interests of the US also lies in weakening Russia as well and therefore no matter what we will never reconcile because both our countries view their success as gaining more military, cultural and political dominance than the other.

So we will never be friends until one of us eliminates the other, if not physically then culturally and politically
>>
>>69916366
McCain is a senile old warmonger and nothing he says should be taken seriously by anyone.
>>
>>69916452
That's true but what he says accidentally reveals how the inner workings of the US government and Elite view Russia, we projected our view of them onto their view of us. It's clear that we will never have anything better than the relationship we have with them now
>>
>>69916560
No what he says should be ignored because he lost his mind over a decade ago.
>>
>>69916592
The thing is even though he said that he didnt write it or come up with the idea or the content. It's covert position of the entire US government and it was given to him by the Republican party to explain affirm their viewpoint. The democratic viewpoint is probably even more hostile

Good luck... his entire cabinet disgress with him on everything. He'll be miles better than Hillary but we'll also be presented with different problems by Trumps cabinet which is sure to go rouge and cause a lot of internal conflict. Trump himself is no savior either

I think the whole thing, at least in a more realistic view, is that it is going to be a massive clusterfuck of different agencies disagreeing with him/each other that not much is done let alone drain anything.
>>

I have a feeling he's going to just fire eveyone who disagrees with him, and that sounds great.

The federal government is long overdue for a purge.

Doubtful. There are protections that avoid massive purges in the government, otherwise he would be a dictator.

Bullshit. They have to get confirmed by Congress so obviously they have to tell those idiots what they want to hear.

And regardless he's in charge anyway, they'll do what he tells them or he'll sperg out and fire them over twitter at 4am.
>>

congress is more concern about their own elections than anything in the world. If they have a secure foothold or they are in a tight race, they won't do shit.

Steve Mnuchin is absolutely expected to be nominated as Secretary of the Treasury. Previously, a major Goldman Sachs partner.
His nomination for SecState is a former Exxon CEO ffs.

Some brighter minds say US, seeing future problems with China, tried to weaken RF to prevent stong ally for future opponent. Plan failed, they instead made them closer.
Today it's possible US will go for different plan in this triangle and we would RF as wise monkey watching two tigers fight, position of China it had in 20 century.

>So then you're just too lazy to tell the truth.
Still waiting on that citation where I lied.
I guess it's not forthcoming. Much like the post-election about-face on the danger of allowing people with distinct links to major corporations into the government.

But hey. It's not my principles melting away. Consider what you would have said if a slimeball like Hillary had put Tillerson as Secstate. You and I both know the answer. But Drumpfkins can't man up and face the music: their man sold them out.

>nobody ever said anything about getting businessmen out of government
Nice sleight of hand there. Issue was influence of big-business: that comes from people contributing money, or, you know, people ripped from the management of corporations to serve in the government. Is Rex Tillerson suddenly some patriot because Trump chose him? The sky is the limit in enriching himself and his oil-interests.
Ex-CEOs actually being in the government was previously unthinkable. Hillary appointing Goldman Sachs bankers to serve in the government seemed so cartoonishly silly, only fools actually pressed the claim. But now that Trump has gone and done it, it seems the issue was only who the charge was directed at.

International affairs have moved away from zero sum politicas, but that does not mean competition between states is a thing of the past.
USA and Russia have aligned themselves with countries that are in regional opposition Iran and China are the most obvious examples.
There is also the affair of democracy encroaching towards Russia, which is something it's ruling circles dislike. It's the real reason why Ukraine was so harshly attacked, the people in Moscow fear being replaced or having to compete in a real multipary democracy.
Trump can only make friends with Russia if he betrays american regional allies and if he allows Russia to restore it's buffers of failed states against democracy.

Nope. Even if our bubble bursts, we would not do anything to Siberia because the people there are our brothers and sisters. Plus, Siberia is a hostile frozen wasteland that would suck to live in. If we wanted the diamonds and oil there we would just invade DeBeers mining facilities in Africa or get Pakistan to use their Muslim connections to front us some oil until we recuperate.

>South China Sea
We're already building artificial islands and fortifying our base defenses there and the Russians have no qualms about that now, so don't see why they would care then.

Nobody needs sovereign AND strong AND rich AND developed Russia.

There is no any power in the world that wants Russia ruled by russian nationalists. Literally NOBODY wants it.

I, on the other hand, know that Canadians are deceitful, two-faced lying rats except for the one-in-a-million that are decent people.

Take, for instance, the one Canadian who is in my Warface Clan that I created two years ago.

I wouldn't trade him for ten Americans because his value far exceeds that of at least 100 (he is #1 on the Clan leaderboards and disproportionately contributes the most clan points out of all of the top ten ranking officers combined, myself included)

Is the business culture you're born to that tells you a paper with a signature can fix everything

It can't. But we already have a workable status quo. As to "money fixes everything", if you remember, Russia offered money back when it could be settled that way. Russia gave in February 2013 more than combined west gave Ukraine in credit in 2014 and Russia offered more.

But in Ukraine, State Department used fanatics. It's a tactic that works, but it also backfires. No you can't pay off an ISIS suicide bomber or a Bandera supporter.

A paper can be written today, and ask all be Allright, but that's exactly the reason it doesn't matter. Paper itself is of no consequence.
We're also not isolationist. We trade freely with all but a score of countries that themselves decided they wanted to "sanction" Russia for opposing their doomed policy I Ukraine.

But don't forget we're paranoid, our history gives us good reason. Russia won't trade security for economic perks under almost any government that is not full retard.

No, not new there. When your country was at it most powerful has always been when it was at its most wealthy.

Wealth is power. If you give a shit about your country you should recognize that good trade deals and treaties of alliance are far better ways to consolidate Russian power in the future than snipping off bits and pieces of clay from surrounding irrelevant shitholes.

And you're not going to get good trade deals or treaties of alliance until the Crimea problem is settled.

I was arguing you need to pay Ukraine for Crimea so you can get legal title and then everyone can stop treating your country like a rogue state, which is what you're currently forcinf everyone to do.
>>
>>69924734
See, trade is only a cornerstone once you have security and stability. Yours is a mindset of an island dweller.

Say what do you think is the price Putin should agree on to allow Wester+Saudi control back in Chechnya? How much do you think is it worth for Russia to be able to have sites in Crimea that can sink an Arleigh Burke ship that can carry a 100 nukes on tomahawks that can reach Moscow from black Sea for all we know?

Even the richest country like the US can't foot the bill
>>
>>69924897
And Israel and Turkey both get along fine with North America and Europe so they can't be punished.

What's the difference in this situation?
>>

>How much do you think is it worth for Russia to be able to have sites in Crimea that can sink an Arleigh Burke ship that can carry a 100 nukes on tomahawks that can reach Moscow from black Sea for all we know?

brah, remember how China had invaded Tibet, destroyed its culture and forced it to their heel? Neither do I. Time heal, man, time heals.
>>
>>69925162
I've said we're paranoid, with good reasons . As to ICBMs there's technicalities.

ICBMs are more easily detected at launch, say. It's smart to launch those when tomahawks already hit. But it's even better to behead enemy command without nukes and then de-escslate. those are all very unlikely scenarios, but no elected Russian leader would ignore those concerns.

First lift sanctions on Cuba then you can lecture a country that has good relations with South and North Koreas, China, Iran, and Finland on , well, international relations. Really the only countries were at odds with are the ones that have been consistently moving in anti-Russian direction for over two decades.

Lifting sanctions you've created is exactly the same as undoing the damage you've done. If you don't have integrity enough for it, you can not be trusted to make the deal your proposing, however strong your negotiating position.

>Lifting sanctions you've created is exactly the same as undoing the damage you've done. If you don't have integrity enough for it, you can not be trusted to make the deal your proposing, however strong your negotiating position.
Wrong. That is not how anyone on earth negotiates. Not people or nations. The weaker party must do something to make the deal worth it to the stronger and the weaker party does that because in the deal there is something in there for them to gain.

If you have a problem with this then you have a problem with reality itself.

>>
>>69928876
Hell man. I think this whole conversation has been about how Russia won't act like the weaker party even when it is one. Maybe we're doing it wrong, but we just won't.

At least I hope you agree that extortion is what it is, even if politicians don't call it that and "everybody's doing it"
>>
>>69928733
I don't think you realise just how entangled Europe and Russia are when it comes to gas and oil. We export a THIRD of our gas from Russia. Replacing all the Russian gas and making it actually interesting for countries to export gas elsewhere (Russia has a tight, tight grip on the market here because of the pipelines, read up on energy geopolitics) could take decades.
>>
>>69929131
I don't agree it's extortion. It's a deal in which both parties benefit, that is not extortion.
>>
>>69928960
Is hard to take you seriously if you think the Fuck the EU conversation is forgery or something, or if you don't know enough to be aware that the parliamentary vote in Rada on the matter didn't have the majority required by the constitution.

Same if you ignore that the vote was happening during the violent change of power in the then-capital
>>
>>69929168
Maybe. But no one really started looking into alternatives seriously until Crimea happened.

And maybe it will take 10 or 20 years for Europe to decouple itself from Russian gas supplies, but why would Russia insist on setting themselves up to be weaker in 10-20 years? It's stupid.
>>

Well it's a complex question
First of all, these things are not really directly connected, if enough power shifts in the West, it might lighten up.
Then there are precedents, of unresolved conflicts lasting decades with both parties having relationships that suit them
And finally, mean amount of western power in the world is shrinking. It might pay off to be the first country that stood up to the bullying of the declining world order, who knows
