There's also the Sepoy rebellion which lasted 2 years and saw thousands of people dead. If I'm not mistaken, the East India company fucked up so bad, they decided to disband them because of how they were percieved to be responsible for the rebellion happening at all and how they led the supression.

That's not exactly what happened. The original Mughals from Afghanistan were seen as foreign invaders. The following generations were pretty much Indian with a touch of Persian influence. The royalty truly cared for the people and worked for their well being. The public wasn't forced to change its way of life.
Perhaps the people would have accepted the British too, if the government wasn't completely focused on fucking the locals over and discriminating against them.
