I live in Tatarstan and i think what republics is a bad. Big levels of corruption, ethnic nepotism, and tatars mostly are culturally lower than russians. And you must learn they language in school and university. Of cource you can't get high post if you not tatar or relative of some powerful tatar.
IAnd if city has 50/50 russian and tatar population, here is a 2/1 mosques and churches ratio.
But there is a good (for Russia) infrastructure, demography and low crime rate because high life level because Tatarstan have oil.
In other respublics you can see all these negative points but harder with a smaller good points.
