As built the Halifax-class vessels deployed the CH-124 Sea King helicopter, which acted in concert with shipboard sensors to seek out and destroy submarines at long distances from the ships. The ships have a helicopter deck fitted with a "bear trap" system allowing the launch and recovery of helicopters in up to sea state 6. The Halifax class also carries a close-in anti-submarine weapon in the form of the Mark 46 torpedo, launched from twin Mark 32 Mod 9 torpedo tubes in launcher compartments either side of the forward end of the helicopter hangar.[5]

As built, the anti-shipping role is supported by the RGM-84 Harpoon Block 1C surface-to-surface missile, mounted in two quadruple launch tubes at the main deck level between the funnel and the helicopter hangar.[4][5] For anti-aircraft self-defence the ships are armed with the Sea Sparrow vertical launch surface-to-air missile in two Mk 48 Mod 0 eight-cell launchers placed to port and starboard of the funnel. The vessels carry 16 missiles.[5] A Raytheon/General Dynamics Phalanx Mark 15 Mod 21 Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) is mounted on top of the helicopter hangar for "last-ditch" defence against targets that evade the Sea Sparrow.[5]

As built, the main gun on the forecastle is a 57 mm (2.2 in)/70 calibre Mark 2 gun from Bofors.[a] The gun is capable of firing 2.4-kilogram (5.3 lb) shells at a rate of 220 rounds per minute at a range of more than 17 kilometres (11 mi).[5]

Our destroyers were obsolete and decommissioned in the last few years, our frigates and missile corvettes have been updated but in case of our frigates the hulls are a bit old now.
The navy has intentions on building and buying new frigates only but not destroyers anymore

For it's size, Sweden used to have a really big military during the Cold War. Traitor politicians downsized the life out of it during the 2000's sadly. But we still have a lot of nifty weapons manufacturing from those times, like this artillery piece from Bofors.

There-s arguably little need for ships that are that big *and costly( to operate and in the absence of a real plan for the navy coming from civilian authorities (the president and congress) consolidation of assets into more necessary operational types is sound policy. The navy has been greatly expanding SAR capabilities even as the marines continue to be used for the war on drugs. Other than a few capable ships to handle long shot scenarios (eg anti-submarine) we really have no reason to operate something like destroyers. I'd much rather we have up to date corvettes than some modernized version of WWII destroyers.

Havoing said that what I would like to see as flagships for each of our fleets is medium sized hospital ships. Not only would that allow the navy better resources for disaster relief but it would prove invaluable in terms of soft power projection which is what our country really needs to get from the navy.

We need to hold the government acountable for this limbo they-re keeping our armed forces in, unfortunately any real efforts will have to wait until the next president, the current administration is overspent and too engaged in Trump damage control for it to allocate any more funds.
>>
>>69872776

This is a nice plan.

What would you consider suitable for Mexico's hospital ships?
>>
>>69873108
Something small on the 200ft range? TBQH this is one decision which should be handled by experts, I-m just trying to make a point regarding what we should be doing with our navy, Mexico is not a country whose policy requires it to mantain conventional means of power projection, basically what we need is porper means to mantain our waters secure (eg from Asian fishing boats exploiting our EEZ) and provide up to standard search and rescue and aid to navigation, other than as I mentioned some small capacity to deal with a few extraordinary threats (terrorism, attack by a regional rogue state) we are basically talking coast guard duties. Hospital ships would just be a means to take those capabilities beyond this traditional role and into a cohesive plan to rationalize our mantaining a navy-s chain of command, infrastructure and traditions in a useful way.

Right now the whole structure is based on modernization of what were originally defense plans meant for WWII, mantaining the navy out of inertia and near permanently underfunded isn-t helping.

>>69886636
Kraut and frog actually.

Poland flies F-16s and MiG-29s for fighters and has a good number of them, I think they have Su-22s too. That's a pretty respectable air force if you're looking at just offensive capability. Granted their logisitics is dogshit but other than the USAF and to a lesser extent the RAF so is everyone else's.

I don't know as much about their army as I do their AF but I do know they have an obscene number of tanks and artillery pieces. As I said a lot of them are older Russian gear that they would clearly prefer to replace but 1000 tanks is still 1000 fucking tanks. And it's cool that they keep them in service instead of going full homosexual European and decomissioning everything.

The gun is riffled, but far from 'shitty'. The Rheinmetall 120 mm is better, but it would cost £400 mill to upgrade.

The Rheinmetall 120 mm is accepted as superior

In English only vessels of tonnage Corvettes and above are "ships," everything smaller is a "boat." Dont get dogfights and formations like in ww2 with the planes, all about misslies

All the boats have only small guns and are centred around the planes

The tanks are alright actually but are really expensive now and we dont have many and never see them
As for soldiers: we dont have many and its nothing heroic , just running weighed down by things, explosions and assault rifle fire at where the enemy might maybe be in the distance then a bullet from nowhere kills your friend all for the sake of some islamic dirtpeople over a problem America caused

Only interesting things are regimental history and parades but only the household regiments and senior officers have dress uniforms

we have a shitload of Mig-21s that are in the process of being retired.. Tejas will replace them in numbers.

Su 30 MKI - primary air superiority fighter similar role to F-15 SE in USAF

Mig 29 SMT - single seat air superiority similar to F-15 A/C version

Jaguar DARIN/Mirage 2000 - current primary deep strike aircraft

Rafale - future primary deep strike fighter and nuke bomber

Mig-21 - point defence interceptor to be replaced by Tejas.

These are the current fighters in IAF and their roles.

They are not mis matched anymore as extensive logistics havebeen developed and refined for them. Su-30 and Mig 29 almost similar logistics. Mirage and Rafale almost similar logistics. That leaves out only Jags and Tejas.

And yeah bragging rights too not to mention actual experience in designing and constructing fighters. Burgers didnt get straight to making Raptors. A lot of lessons were learned in making various fighters which helped in building bigger and better fighters. Same here.

The burger is right though. Whilst the rifled gun makes it the most accurate tank gun in the world, it also severely limits the types of shells it can fire. Bigger heavy rounds that can be used with smoothbore guns, can't be used in the Challengers rifled gun.

But they've simply developed rounds that are equal to smoothbore rounds but work in rifled. Initially it was a benefit because smoothbore rounds weren't developed as thoroughly, now it's negligible in accuracy due to those developments but it also has its own developments and work-arounds, making smoothbore more convenient but not much better if better at all.

Yeah, Burkes were already overload like shite, so it can't be great. Especially because it typically deploys around SK EEZ and not blue water, so they skipped on a few comforts.

What do you need propeller driven attack planes like that for? They have to be so vulnerable against any enemy with AA weapons or an air force.

Pic related is Swedish Gripen plane. Too bad the cucks in our government took away the cluster bombs.

It is apparently known as "the floating gulag" in the Russian navy. It also only has half as many functioning toilets as it is supposed to, and it wasn't meant to have very many in the first place. Probably a real dream to serve on.
