We got to a period of control in Angola and Mozambique (and in Guinea Bissau we controlled the only city), but other inurgences were bound to happen.

in 1974 we had a coup d'etat that dethroned the regime and the new guys just thought it had been enough, and pressure from the UN to end the last global empire were strong.

Decolonisation was handled pretty fucking badly, too, but it was either that or letting the commies rule the country, which we narrowly avoided.
