It could probably have been nipped in the bud had the Popes minded certain criticism before it was to late by having the council of Trent at least fifty years earlier.
It was great for learning Europe to read and did a lot for subjugated cultures by at least having the bible translated to their language.
The FInnish written language was just to name one invented by a Protestant Bishop of unknown exact ethnic origin.
Catholics do seem to be more spiritual in the modern world though I am not sue if that's because of Catholicism itself or just because economical and cultural reasons independent of Religion.

With Catholicism you have (potentially) Mass every day, Divine Office, icons, statues, monasticism, devotions like the rosary, saints, pilgrimages, etc. whereas with most Protestant groups you go to church once and week and do group studies of the bible. Catholicism is more visible and present for the most part, though there are Protestant groups that have at least some of these things.

Anglicanism and the traditional varieties from the British isles are fantastic.

American meme protestantism, especially any churches preaching the prosperity gospel disgrace Christ's name.

I notice these threads attract a lot of Iberians or Latino's who flat out dismiss all protestantism. Go to any High Anglican church in the UK and you would think it was an English Mass.

Close, but as an ex-Protestant I'd have to it's because it takes less effort to look Protestant. The church that I used to go to would have people that would basically do some of the worst things imaginable, then come in on Sunday and pretend to be the ideal follower of Christ. This wasn't 5,10, or even 15% of the members of the church.. it was more of an even split. Protestantism today is a religion MOSTLY based on the ability to conduct guilt-free sin.

As in they'll fuck, drink, fight, and ignore all their responsibilities; then when Sunday comes they act as if they are better than everyone else and try to one up each other. It's not exactly uncommon to hear church member talk badly about one other.

However from my experiences, more often than not it's women who will do this. In my opinion I think it's because they're caught in between our culture and tradition.

As for actual protestants, they're extremely kind people and are always willing to help out someone else in need. My church does summer missions where we go to the Midwest to help out underprivileged families. Sunday Christians don't do anything and turn it more into a social vacation, but there are actually genuine people who do it to help out another person in need.

Real protestant's are some of the nicest people I've met.
