Why do the Balkans eat so much bread?
I eat your mums pussy
I had Chevapchis once (I know it isn't spelled like that, I couldn't find the right letter) they were delicious.

ćevapi, the diminutive is ćevapčići
they're minced meat of questionable origin grilled and always served with a type of bread called somun in Bosnia, lepinja in Croatia and usually diced onion on the side. Small portions are 5 chevaps + 1 side of somun, medium are 5 chevaps + whole somun (don't know why anyone would order this) and large with 10 chevaps and a whole somun.
As you can see, I am quite the ćevap connoisseur
The meal was almost entirely lifted from the Turks. The ćevap is basically kebab (even from a linguistic perspective, it makes sense) and somun/lepinja is pita bread.
as for why Balkans eat so much bread - it is perhaps the cheapest "food" that you can get in relatively large quantities. Yugos buy bread almost exclusively from bakeries and not from supermarkets. In my neighbourhood alone (part of Zagreb, around 10k people) , there are atleast 4 bakeries.

>pizza in a bakery
WTF I love Croatia now

they sell pizza cuts.
I think that pic related is in serbia, but they still do it here in Croatia aswell.
"Pizza" from a bakery will almost always, from my experience, be sweet-ish and not gonna taste like pizza at all. This is because the bakeries don't have the type of ovens that the pizzerias have
But regardless, bakeries are incredibly common around here.Whenever I'm coming home from uni, I grab a sandwich, hotdog or something like pic related from a bakery, and it always fills me up ;D even though it's rarely more than $2.
also, they usually do infact sell yogurt and other such drinks in bakeries aswell. Probably because of the burek (also Turk food) + yoghurt combo
