Problem with minimum wage is that it's near impossible to define proper level for minimum wage, especially if its industry wide.

Also generally minimum wage via increased worker costs are then transferred to goods being more expensive, eventually resulting in same result as before. If you want to even out income inequality, taxation (or tax breaks ) is more efficient method of moving wealth from the top to bottom.
>>
>>69706092
ayy lmao, neoliberalism
there's no such thing as a "job worth less" unless you really REALLY want to generate poverty like >>69706107 does

>the Congress has the best paid wages
I don't understand?
I meant jobs like janitor :^), overweight guard, cashier in a shop that has one client per day, etc.

>>69706362
Yes, the markets nowadays might be vulnerable to monopolies but by decreasing the red tape, regulation and promoting innovation it can be avoided.
>>
>>69705789
That argument is usually made by american retards with zero contact or knowledge about wage negotiation or basic concepts like consumer price index and such and then parroted by useful international idiots who try to apply american standards to their own countries.

The whole argument is based around an erroneous assumption that minimum wage hikes are done arbitrarily with absolutely no consideration from employers, unions or taking the general economic situation into question when in reality incremental changes are rarely big enough to have a major effect.

Funnily enough at least in funland the bigger problem is the rigidity of labor markets and even low salary employees having too much job security. No one wants to hire an employee if the economic situation is unsure and there's a risk they'll have to dismiss them if the going gets rough since they'd be looking at months of severance payments and other fun little punishments for daring to hire someone.

Which is why companies would much rather outsource their employees with work rental services and short work contracts, never full time employment.
>>
Literally Heterodoxical economics in action. Looks like Maduro forgot about the 1980s.
>>
>>69706453
>decreasing the red tape, regulation and promoting innovation it can be avoided.

Wouldn't lead to more monopolies as current existing corporations would obviously be in a better position to use the advantages of the changes?
>>
>>69706495
Our situation is simple though. And even economists agree this is a common hole in usual economic theories. Salaries aren't elastic when going down, unless it is done via massive inflation.
>>
>>69706590
In my opinion no. The fact that they have more capital is their advantage but it's not a blocking factor for other players to enter the market.
Oligopolies would be much more probable but I think they wouldn't be as resilient as nowadays.

>If you want to even out income inequality, taxation (or tax breaks ) is more efficient method of moving wealth from the top to bottom.

Yeah, but then they cry about socialism or something. In any case, minimum wage is a nice ad-hoc solution to the sticky wages problem, though unfortunately it's not too effective when it can't be applied to specific industries.
>>
>>69705001
Per day? Per week?
I assume it's not the hourly wage, because that would be insane.
>>
>>69706732
This is industry specific. Certain industries (mainly infrastructure) is too prone to monopolies that it would be overall better for society to control that monopoly, not to mention the other benefits it has.

>>
>>69706903
>I can buy soft drinks
Because the only beer you will find there come from another country and is overcharged as fuck. All the brewers in Venezuela became bankrupt when the government force them to put a low price in their product.

You never visit a restaurant in a commie country, right? There is nothing more than staple food...
>>
>>69706989
Is that in Boa Vista? I'm going to fly there from Manaus this summer and then cross to Venezuela.
>>
>>69706727
Lack of elasticity in wages when going down as such isn't really as big of a problem as people make it out to be though, and I sincerely doubt things would change even if the triumvirate (employers, unions and government) suddenly agreed to get rid of minimum wage all together. The change would only apply to the lowest of the low income employees, and they are at best marginal cases like immigrant cleaners. There wouldn't be a general compression in wages or a sudden miraculous economic recovery based around the fact that instead of having to pay the said floor cleaner 10€ an hour the company can now pay her 2€ an hour. Not that anyone else except illegal immigrants would actually work for that kind of salary.

>>
>>69707212
Minimum wage jobs aren't the problem though, they aren't the backbone of our economy. It is during 2007-2009 when wages went up because everyone thought eternal growth was well, eternal. This growth was mainly to experts and higher end jobs, especially heavy industry. But a Finnish paper mill worker isn't that much more efficient than an Indian one.

You have to remember, we have minimum wages for high end jobs as well.
>>
>>69707411
i will come in august
>>
>>69705725

If you think about from the perspective of the employer the nominal wage of the employee is always somewhat higher than what the employee gets. In other words as long as some form of taxation of mandatory insurance is involved the employee that gets say 10$/h can cost something like 14$/h to the employer.

Now if the minimum wage is set too high the kind of employee whose labor input isn't worth the price that the employer has to pay becomes unemployed, can only work under the table. Those kind of people are most likely young and uneducated, meaning minimum wage can work against the most vulnerable part of the workforce.

>>
>>69707518
Again, the effect wouldn't be major even in other salary groups. Higher income employment is not as organised as lower income or even middle income and it's already for all intents and purposes internationally competed. A drop in minimum wages wouldn't matter that much in that category.

When it comes to middle income there are a lot more variables that determine wages other than just minimum wage. Taxation, retirement payments, cost of living and people just wanting to be paid a competitive wage would still inflict a lot of pressure on employers to keep up the status quo. And with zero control over the currency there's not much the government can do to cushion the drop in wages even if minimum wage was removed.

Actually is more safe. Since Venezuela is under martial law, the streets are full of soldiers. Just don't be retard when a clash between police and hungry Venezuelans start. You will be beat by both sides!
>>
>>69707996
The only danger traveling by bus are military checkpoints that want bribes. No gangs are targeting busses because they know the people don't have any money.

South and Isla Margarita are completely safe. Cities like Merida, Valencia and Maracaibo don't have more homicides than cities in Cali for example. Also the homicide rate in Venezuela is greatly exaggerated by the government. Real homicide rate would be around level of "unsafe" cities in Colombia.

I strongly advise to NOT come here. If you really want to fulfill some kind of wet dream to come to south american countries, and choose Venezuela above all, then I suggest to go to Merida, Valencia or the elite high places like Lecherias in Anzoategui. Forget about Caracas, and don't even bother with Maracaibo. Also, Margarita has been going to the shithole lately, not even the high standing hotels have vital stuff like water and toilet paper.
>>
>>69708451
>Will do a five day jungle tour there and then take a bus to Boa Vista.
You really want to get a airplane to Boa vista. The trip looks small, but is more than cross Germany north by south (+ jungle roads). And you will get bored without internet (no 3g cover at all!).
Also, the worst part will be Rio de Janegro. The rest is pretty safe.
>>
>>69708451
If its only travel, go ahead. A friend's cousin came from Italy and did almost the same route as you.
>>
>>69708608
Also, when in Manaus, try to find a german guy that own a bar. I know him (but will not post his phone), he can take you to fish in a nice spot and play airsoft in the jungle.
>>
>>69708592

Why? I sincerely don't get the dangerous vibe as you and I know that 99,9% of the violent murders happen in the slums. As a tourist I will only travel around the city by taxi and never walk, so there literally 0 chance that someone robs me unless I do something stupid.

You also will want to wear a light short. A very lose one. And maybe some under shirt (sleeve less).

1. Long story:
Venezuela is whiter than us, and they are the ones doing the worst right now even if we are not doing good at all in the last months. Chile is doing better than Argentina, Guatemala is doing better than El Salvador, Panama is doing better than Colombia, etc. Look up demographics to see what this means.
Locally, the best places are Yucatán (mostly mestizo and amerindian) and Mexico City (a combination of everything, but mostly mestizo), and Baja California Sur (more whiteish and white, but still mestizo). Meanwhile, our worst states are Sinaloa, Chihuahua and Tamaulipas (whiteish and mestizo) and Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas (mostly amerindian and mestizo, tho michoacan is little bit whiteish than the others).

2. Short story:
There is no correlation.
>>
>>69714367
Chile and argentina are the least native, least african and least racially hispanic of latin america quebec aside
>>
>>69714703
You are confusing Uruguay with Chile m8. And while they are whiter than a lot of people, they are not whiter than Argentina or Uruguay by a long shot. If I remember correctly, both Colombia and Venezuela are also whiter than Chile.

Look the demographics. There really is no correlation in Latin America as a whole.
>>
>>69714853
I know nothing about youragay except that it's a freemason country
>>
>>69715040
They are whiter than Argentina but they have a tiny minority of blacks while Argentina has next to none. They are pretty successful, I guess, at least for being really left leaning and Latin American; with a tiny population (like 3 million, I think). To most people they are pretty much the same country as Argentina (very similar accent that only Argentinians and Uruguayans differenciate, crazy for football asado and mate and both claim that Mate and Tango are from their countries), albeit, Uruguay has more South Brazilian influence in some parts. They really should be the same country tbqh.

At least that is the memes I know about them, might be wrong in more than a few.

Argentina is only white in the delussional mind of their urban middle classes, to them working class Argentina is either a myth, a small minority, are all Bolivian migrants, etc. They are no whiter as a whole than northern Mexico which isn't exactly an Aryan homeland either.

if you don't pay the workers enough, they don't buy stuff
demand never grows and thus the economy never grows

da fuc. Homicide rate according to the government is over 50 per 100.000, according to other sources is like 90.

Cali homicide rate is 53 per 100.000. Pereira, Cucuta, Barranquilla are on the 28-30 per 10.000 range and are the ones with the highest rate.

>>
>>69705527
>raising the minimum wage is useless
Actually it will generate more inflation.
>>
>>69725083
all these raises are pretty retarded because of how the country is doing right now.

>everyone spends their money on food and services
>shoe store has to pay 50% more to its employees
>less people keep buying shoes because they would rather buy food
>they can't pay their employees and have to either close the store or let the employees go
which is pretty hard because of retarded laws but still doable
Now apply that to every business and you see that it's not sustainable at all

Less jobs and higher prices due to inflation make people go desperate and become criminals that never get caught because there is no law enforcement. Just import the Venezuelan qts that still remain here and watch the place burn down from afar.
>>
>>69716021
yeah but raising the wage is not the way to improve economy
they should at least go full commie and freeze the base prices or i dunno, they should just quit
>>
>>69725483
Exactly, the shop owners will raise all their prices now the people has more money on their pockets, is basic economy.
>>
>>69725523
price freezes can't be enforced for very long

president Nixon's freeze only lasted six months because businesses kept finding ways to cheat and gouge, and the U.S. at the time wasn't even experiencing the kind of chaos and breakdown that Venezuela currently is

a better full-commie way would be to pin wages to productivity, not prices

or, i dunno, just nationalize everything and then dole it back out to worker collectives
>>
>>69707794

people like you need to die
GOOD LUCK!!!
>>
>>69725587
>people has more money on their pockets
that they will use to buy food that also costs more now due to the raise.

The main concern in this country right now is food. Everyone talks about food and where to get it, everyone is worried that they won't find the basic shit they need to last another month. Only the people deeply tied with the government are safe from that shit since they control the imports.

Of course there is a fragment of the population that still has disposable income and buys cool shit but those are also thinking about where to get food.

matate
>>
>>69705651
>implying that America didn't fucked everything up

And Venezuela is not even remotely communist - they depend on the oil prices, not on the production. And I don't know how many times countries have failed using the same scheme like "as long as resources are going on, nothing will damage our economy. Hey, why do the prices fall down?"

to be fair I don't think just handing the businesses out to workers without any re-education would solve everything either, especially if they've been accustomed to the "you need a boss to tell you what to do" workplace culture

the Mondragon collectives in Spain had the aid of an anarchist tradition and ideals to shape them and still took 50 years to become Spain's 7th-largest industry

so I guess Venezuela's probably fucked

but maybe if they threw out their rotten government too, that could be a start
>>
>>69725852
>implying that America didn't fuck everything up
Oh what the hell did we do this time? I'm aware of the various fuckery we've pulled in South America but we didn't lift a finger when Chavez came to power, and now all we do is sit on our asses and laugh at the Venezuelans as they continually fuck themselves over because "muh big bad US of A is totally going to invade". Most Americans don't give a shit about that country.
