It may be more common, but aside from that, it weighs not much on a general scope. Spanish speaking countries don't produce relevant mass-culture and neither produce a lot of content of scientific value. And economically, they don't perform too well either.

Our government is bugging us to learn English instead, but they are too stingy to invest in good formation in English language. Maybe that alone could represent an opportunity for some of you, but nothing more.


To me, English has been more useful that Spanish in University, even if I'm far from being a competent user of the Language. This also seems to be true for people who manage to pick up even a little of the language in our environment. For example, I have a cousin who got a job in a multinational firm without a qualification other than knowing a little of English (and having graduated from high-school), and the pay is better even than in some jobs that require technical formation.

Any extra language (especially learned as a child) is a gift. Doesn't matter if his parents taught him Spanish, Italian, Cherokee or Tok Pisin.

I don't know. My accent is peculiar.
The next semester of uni is in 2 months, but I wish you could hear their accents when they speak. I'm obviously not a native speaker, but holy shit it makes my ears bleed.
They don't even attempt to fix their R. And a few even do stupid shit like pronouncing "ción" like the "tion" in English.

Nah, I'm planning on being a linguistics professor. I started Spanish just out of my love for language, however teaching it wouldn't be bad if I ever become fluent.
Only issue is that Spanish is not a commonly taught language in Australia. The most commonly taught languages are Japanese, French and Italian. German, Mandarin and Indonesia are also taught at some schools.
