Fried/sugary foods and drinks are widely available in large quantities.
We have a culture of anti-intellectualism, which means we have a bunch of idiots who refuse to accept common sense about dieting (eg, they think fat is all genetic and that long-term weight loss is impossible)
Also, certain aspects of feminism seem to be worse here than in Europe. Half the feminists in the US preach fat acceptance, because stuffing your face with cake is the best way to fight the patriarchy. We have several colleges that offer Fat Studies courses like pic-related as part of the Women's Studies curriculum.

And it gets worse because it all snowballs. As americans, especially american women, get fatter, our standards of obesity change. People like Amy Schumer become the new normal and don't even see themselves as fat. People 100 pounds overweight think of themselves as just a little chubby.

Cheap readily available fast food, overabundance of corn and corn products so instead of cane sugar they put corn syrup in products making stuff like already fatty soft drinks even worse
