If any of his plans to increase border security actually work, Mexico is only going to become a better place because drug trafficking is ruining the country at the moment

As long as there's a massive murrican demand of drugs and shit, there'll be cartels and druglords in Mexico, no matter what.

The wall might provide them with new opportunities, they just need to drift away politically and economically from Burgerland and reorientate strategically towards Asia-Pacific, Europe and the rest of LatAm.

The less exposure to cancerous amerishit, the better they will do.

You can't fucking stop drug trafficking this way, the simple math behind the fact that it is the most profitable business in the world prevents this from happening, because: a) it is a multibillion dollar industry that makes more money than the entire GDP of 176 countries, b) those billions of dollars can be used in extortion, which they do, both here and in the US (believe it or not) especially when they use the "plata o plomo" tactic, c) they don't have to pay taxes, they can exploit their "workers" all they want, they don't even have to pay them, and they don't have to make sure their produce meets any standards since it is not regulated, d) the price of drugs is extremely high thanks to their status as illegal and they can be produced incredibly cheaply, e) with everything above taken into account, they can lose up to 99% of their produce to the police/military, and with that remaining 1% of the produce they would still make 100% in profit, which they will later use to bribe people; and finally, f) the border between Mexico and the US is huge, so even if your goal is to stop 100% of their produce from entering, it would be extremely costly to patrol 24/7 the entire border plus coastlines in the Atlantic and the Pacific (let alone impossible), and you would still fail spectacularly since they use submarines, planes (private and international), catapults, tunnels, random people crossing the border illegally and legally (both knowingly and unknowingly), cargo ships, and every other single way you could imagine.

The logistics behind such a thing are impractical, unlikely to happen and incredibly costly.

Now, the other “problem” the wall is supposed to prevent is illegal immigration. What if I told you that immigration from Mexico into the US has reversed for years? There are more Mexicans coming back than going in -net migration has reversed-, immigration from the southern border is currently at its lowest levels since the 70s, more than half of all the illegal immigrants in the US are not Mexicans (they are often not even from this continent), and more than half of all the illegal immigrants entered the US with a visa (not through the border) and overstayed; and that not only are immigrants less likely to partake in crime than locals statistically speaking, but while the number of Mexicans has increased over the decades, their murder rate and crime levels have never been lower (I am not saying it is thanks to them, just that this correlation alone shatters away any claims of they bringing crime). And WE and only WE are supposed to pay for THEIR wall? And to achieve that he is going bribe and blackmail us starting an economic war against us (forcing companies to stay in the US, which is fine, but in doing so it causes uncertainty that will very likely cause an economic crisis here which would put in grave danger the livelihoods of up to 15 million Mexicans, which is not fine), he would impose a tariff of 35% to everything coming from Mexico, and he would take away the money Mexicans in the US send back to help their families over here. So he is already directly hurting millions of Mexicans when he is not even president yet, which in turn WILL raise immigration, immigration that hasn’t even been a problem in the last years, but will be when he destroys our economy with the help of our own incompetent government that has been fucking everything up themselves without any help.

So, having said this, HOW ON EARTH will this be good both for the US and especially Mexico? He is nothing short of a fucking nightmare.

They'll just reorient their drug market around Asia/Europeans than. That's only going to make things worse

What Mexico truely needs is a competent government and a gradual legalization process that turns the drug market into a source of stateincome rather than enriching a handful of Narcos.

Drugs need to be legalized both here, but especially in the US, which is their main market, since it is prohibition all over again, but on steroids. There are already cartels and drug traffickers in Asia, the Middle East and Africa to prevent them from taking over all those other markets.

What we need to do is:

1) Legalize drugs here, or at least decriminalize them like Portugal did, while we wait for everyone else to make some fucking sense and do it as well. But even if we do, it wouldn’t matter that much since we consume less drugs that almost everyone else in The Americas (we even consume less Alcohol and Tobacco).

2) Stop the fucking Duterte-Levels of stupid Drug War that has been going on for the last 10 years (in 2006, see pic), which accomplished fucking nothing but triple our declining murder rate, while completely destroying our already bad international image, which in the process, hurt our tourism industry greatly. Maybe we should just look the other way like Morocco is doing and stop trying to prevent drugs from entering the US entirely, since we shouldn’t be paying with our blood, pain and live for YOUR health problems.

3) Stop depending so much on the US and start to look another way, maybe China.

4) Brace ourselves for the inevitable economic crisis under both Trump and Peña Nieto.

But it won’t happen and we are going to be fucked. Just like we have been being fucked periodically every single decade after someone in our incredibly imbecile government fucks it up, like they just did with the price of gas, but now we also have to deal with Trump.

Holy shit I am mad right now.

Agreed, but I'm thinking specifically specifically in terms of what the Mexican government can do. The US is slowly approaching legalization, but in the meantime legalization in Mexico could lead to a flood of drug tourism that could really give the Mexican economy a boost.
