Girl, better quality of life, great and underrated culture, customs. Basically, from my perspective if you are looking for something as further west as you can with same or very similar mentality as other Eastern Europeans, you end up with either Czech Republic or Slovenia. I can see if your GF is Czech that you would be learning Czech (because you can talk normally using Slovak in Czechia and it is easier to learn, through if you are a foreigner learning one of the language you should expose yourself to the other one too as foreigners understand the other lang much worse than natives usually).

But if you learn Czech you do not have to learn Slovak. We will understand you just fine, but you should maybe watch some Slovak stuff as well to expose yourself to it. Czech alone is hard for foreigners as "obecná čeština" vs literary Czech is almost as different as standard Czech vs Slovak. So expose yourself to common Czech, literary Czech and Slovak, else you might end up only being able to understand books but not common speech (srsly I have read about this) or only common speech but no book language. The differences are quite trivial for native speakers, even between Czech and Slovak, but foreigners can be even baffled by common vs literary Czech. Mejdlo vs mýdlo, sejr vs sýr, vokno vs okno etc.

I haven't watched anything Slovak yet I think, I watched Pelišky, Slunce seno movies, Snowboardaci, Raftaci and Dobry vojak Švejk. It is usually hard to find English subtitles for newer movies, if they even exist at all. So if you could recommend some must-watch stuff, both older from Czechoslovakia and newer with eng subs, that would be great.
