Although it's a lot better in Scotland. Hunt's pretty much shattered all morale in the NHS in England and the system requires a great deal of good will from those working in it to survive.

And with the state of labour (not that I'm a massive fan of them but they're better than the tories) it looks like the UK could be ruled by tories til 2025 at least anyway.

USA probably is 2bh, but Westminster's been worse than the EU has for a long time

Macmillan was probably the last great prime minister and since then the tories have been the party of false economy. They literally just sold of the land registry (which, in addition to being something that the state really ought to be in charge of, was profitable) to a private company - allegedly it was to do with preventing freedom of information requests from applying to land but I wouldn't put it past ideology-driven ministers as just wanting to dump all state assets.

I had a minor chest issue and I saw a doctor, an X-Ray technician, and a physiotherapist all within the space of two weeks

My dad had a minor heart problem that in no way was life threatening, or even life impeding. He didn't even know about it until he looked back at his heartrate on his heartrate monitor after exercise. Still, he went to his GP and a week later went to hospital for a 20 minute bit of surgery.

Similar story when he broke his wrist. I drove him to A&E and about an hour after checking in, he got called up.

I honestly think waiting times in A&E and to see specialists are a meme.
>>
>>69478605
I'm sure we already have some on a few of the lines but I couldn't tell you which. I think the tube uses some? The more unions become politicised the more I want to see them get wrecked.
>>
>>69478801
Transport for London opened a tender for procurement, but the unions went apeshit and the tender was quickly closed.

I think the only unmanned "trains" in the UK are the Docklands Light Railway and various people movers at airports like Birmingham
>>
>thinking that Railways make ANY kind of profit

They always lose money. You can only try to minimize the cost as much as possible. Selling them out is a stupid idea though.
>>
>>69478784
Yeah if you have a problem they don't wait around. If I call up the specialist because of a problem, I go into A&E for a few hours, put on a ward and start getting x-rays or whatever the next day.

You do get seen a lot faster as an inpatient too, because they want to make you leave. Only thing I hate is I get put on the ward with the alcoholics if I do go in.

Thank fuck it's not America.
>>
>>69478949
I just went and checked, an article does say they look to be introduced 2020s. Hopefully that's going to happen.

I must've got mixed up with guards, although I do hope for driverless trains eventually. I know the whole southern rail problem at the moment is over guards, or so they say, but I don't think those are necessary either.
>>

Arguable, there are plenty of people who complain about having to wait for an appointment with a specialist.
Because my medication would cost me thousands a year even with insurance because of how it works.

The NHS isn't anywhere near perfect but compared to the American system I'd take it any day.

why do europeans think we don't have healthcare

1) you don't know what the word "healthcare" is. healthcare is doctors and medicine and treatment. those things exist everywhere in the world. and we have the best doctors and hospitals and technology and pharmaceuticals in the world and get talent from all over the world

2) what you're actually referring to is paying for the healthcare. paying for healthcare is not the same thing as healthcare, but you use the word "healthcare" to cover both. maybe you're just dumb or it's a linguistic limitation. anyway, you have the idea that if the government doesn't pay for it (ie you pay for it through taxes) then it's not healthcare. but nearly all americans have healthcare coverage and nearly all americans get their healthcare insurance through their employer. my health insurance coverage right now is glorious and is especially great considering how much higher wages are in the US and how much lower the cost of living is here.

In finland if a publicly owned company makes a lot of profit the money goes to the company runners, not making prices cheaper. For example the finnish post service (100% owned by the country) sacked a lot of workers and rised pices. exactly
betchu some official got out with a nice amount of money after the railroads got sold
face it, theres nothing more efficient than a functioning market
the government (or in fact any owner if he does not have sufficient competition) WILL allocate resources inefficiently, and the result is what you can see with DB, ie paying ridiculous prices for shitty, overcrowded trains without a functioning ac which arent even on time
>>
>>69489054
free market is only effective when competition is possible.
Railroad is a natural monopoly. If a company owns a railroad track, nobody else is gonna be able to compete with them on that specific track, so they can make prices as high as they want

lolbertarians claim that the free market system is voluntary. But some (technically) voluntary systems are just far more valuable than consumer goods like public transportation or healthcare that actually end up enriching the economy by providing infrastructure so the more competitive and voluntary industries can exist.
