Well the ruling party is liberal with quite some left leaning since they're in coalition with the social democrats, as well as the pensioners' party (a great Slovene meme desu). The main opposition party is the Slovene democratic party which is a liberal conservative party and you could say quite a populist streak. Their leader is a controversial figure who is worshipped by some, absolutely hated by others. They like to bring WW2 and the independence war up a lot.

Well not really dialects, but their own versions. There are some isolated valleys where a small number of villages have their own dialects that are hard for anyone to understand.
Maps don't really do it justice because changes start getting noticeable after a few kilometres.

That's an exaggeration but it exists for a reason, I once heard a factoid claiming that we have more dialects than all of Germany, which I don't find too hard to believe despite the huge difference in numbers. Personally I can tell you that I've run into almost incomprehensible dialects from places 20km away. Several different kinds, depending on which side of a river or hill chain the speaker is from.

Those gray dialects in the south are closer to Serbo-Croatian because some of contact and because that's where Croats and Serbs once moved and got assimilated, influencing the dialects there. The Pannonian dialects are pretty close to Kajkavian (the dialects on the Croatian side of the border). All in all, it's more about contact because before 1991, everyone learned Serbo-Croatian in school, there was more Serbo-Croatian media and it was used in the army. I was born after so I never learned it but it's still far more understandable than any other Slavic language. Still, a lot of the younger people don't seem to understand any of it and speak English with Serbs and Croats (and so do the latter; I've witnessed it and it was weird).

The only thing that makes Slovenia stand out is that Slovenia and Croatia had the strongest economy in Yugoslavia, and that Slovenia had the shortest war.

Ofcourse, a war that's called the "Weekend war" and that my uncle said that he basically roamed the woods carrying hunters' rifles with his friends and then abruptly ended will not have that much of an effect on the country and it's economy.

The war in Croatia lasted a few years, many cities were destroyed and there are still active mines throughout the country. This is why many polititians - rightist and leftists love to bring it up. It's a painful spot for many Croats.

Slovenes on the other hand was basically unaffected by the war. Less than 20 Slovenes were killed and the country was allowed to establish a solid economy in the 90s while other ex-yu countries were still fighting wars.

well as half Slovene - Slovenes don't really get that triggered by Serbs and generally don't care about it

the main rivalry between South Slavics was always between Croats and Serbs - Croats claim that Serbs want to dominate the entire Balkans region, and Serbs claim that places like Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo actively abuse and comit genocide on Serbian minorities.

But the Yugoslav wars are justified by Serbs by claiming that the Serbian areas in Croatia and Bosnia have to be part of Serbia. This created the Republika Srpska region OF Bosnia, but also this prompted the Croatian government to expel Serbs from Serbian minority areas.

YES, Slovenia has had liberal governments for 20,5 of the 25 years of its existence. Yes, there's gay pride in Ljubljana, though the gay bars and population is much less noticeable in the wider nightlife than in Zagreb.
Yes, there have been drives by soccer moms from Prekmurje and Gorenjska to cancel out the government's attempts at instituting gay marriage and adoption (most Slovenes are sympathetic to the first but unsure of the second), twice.

I don't know why the Croat is peddling his Balkan traumas here though, because that doesn't have anything to do with Slovenia. Croats and Serbs love and hate each other and ignore everyone else. For Croats, Bosnians and Serbs who live at home, the whole world is ex-yu without Slovenia.
