One thing that is usually left out of discussion when the subject is developing Latin America is that latino countries suffer more than any other country on Earth with debt. Most Latin American countries spend from 50 to 75% of their entire national budget to pay just the interest on the debts they have, and even then often times that is not enough and it's also just the interest, not the debts itself being paid. Common measures that are taken to pay the debts are, for example, giving national resources to those companies (oil, ores, lands, wood, etc.) which also explains why Latin America is so resource rich and yet so poor. Massive debt also causes massive taxes. For example, I like drinking wine, for example, but I know for granted that 90 to 95% of wine price is taxes, I have to pay the equivalent of 40 US dollars to drink a bottle of shit ass third class wine. Massive taxes mean less consumption, less employment, which results in increased criminality, etc.. The banks are also infiltrated into the politicians and their parties, with two or three banks financing the main parties. I know that in Brazil the bank Bradesco finances the moderate left and the hard left is financed by Itau. In Argentina it's Satander and citiBank. So in the end a bank always wins.
