Yes, It's a great city with a long history with roman, osman, christian and islamic influence. It's also a big city, which is nice because you can see people just living their daily life if you are sick of the tourist traps.

And I have to add that going to Istanbul made me realise that turks here are very different from turks there - because when you move far away you try to conserve your culture while turks in turkey are able to adapt to changes.

I know that we got the stupid turks but I think my observation is still right - Same for germans in southern brazil (Blumenau) and namibia or french in qebec. They try way to hard to conserve their culture - and while it may work in the new-world it's meh here.
