Vosotros means (you) in plural and is formal in Latin America (but not Spain). It's like calling someone sir kinda
>>69282641
Not formal in Spain, what the fuck? See I'm used to French where you have the same thing with "vous", but everyone uses it no matter the place. How do Spaniards address multiple people or those of a higher status?

in Spain they have "vosotros" for informal and "ustedes" for formal, but here we just use ustedes.

In Spain vosotros is informal and ustedes formal.

What are the different associations of the different variations of Spanish? Does European Spanish sound medieval and sophisticated like British English does to Unitedstatians for example? Are variations of some countriea associated with ideologies or ethnicity like Cuban and Argentinean Spanish?

>Does European Spanish sound medieval and sophisticated like British English does to Unitedstatians for example?
Yes, ironically. Like when you retarded cousin try to read the bible out loud
>>69283751
Don't see how this is relevant, as people can drop the lisp if they want. Grammatically European Spanish is still true Spanish that hasn't been cheapened down to the level of second worlders, with actual proper distinctions between letters like c/z and s, unlike Latino Spanish, making writing the language easier too.
>>69283849
Spainish Spanish sounds a bit gay or effeminate because of the lisp. There's nothing wrong with it though and doesn't require learning much more than normal Spanish.

>>69282350

meh, I was thought vosotros in school even if we were never meant to use it
>>69284944
Being an archaic form to us vosotroes tends to sound even more formal than usted, might as well use vuestra merced while while we are at it and speak in indefinite infinitive. In reality usted tends to sound rude to Mexicans when it is not used in well defined formal contexts as we do also use it to convey indiference/contempt, so all we have to do is strategically add diminutives (an Aztec habit passed from Nahuatl into Mexican Spanish) to turn what without any clues of tone would sound as correct, formal speech appear as mockery in the ears of other Mexicans.
>>69282319
The vos is a pest, educated Central Americans used to share the same forms used in Mexico but have lately begun to adopt the vos from their lower classes as for some reason its use in south America does give it some varnish of prestige, nevermind many do relish in principle playing contrarians to Mexicans. The vos sounds neutral to me when used by an Argentino, I imagine I simply unconciously accept it from them as natural, but sounds cringe as fuck coming from an Honduran or a Salvadoran.
