Why are people proud of having a hard to learn language, It's retarded and just means that your ancestors lacked intelligence. Spanish, Swedish and English are all much better languages than russian/ estonian, etc
>>

>Swedish
>being relevant outside of Sweden and east Sweden
>>
>>69227533
This is wrong.
An easier language signifies that either the language has become "ingrown" with isolation or that the ancestral speakers were literally immigrants/weren't educated enough to speak the language.
A prime example of this is Farsi.
You have to go back Abdullah.

Jealous of our better language kraut?

Maybe I've been accultured too much in a certain way, but what you guys are saying doesn't even make sense to me.

>It's retarded and just means that your ancestors lacked intelligence
>implying a direct correlation between stupidity and language complexity
what
>Spanish, Swedish and English are all much better languages than russian/ estonian, etc
>implying Spanish/Swedish/English are easy to learn for a non-European speaker, like a speaker of Chinese
The only actually simple languages seem to be recently born creoles like Haitian Creole.

>>69227619
>An easier language signifies that either the language has become "ingrown" with isolation
what

How does a language even become "ingrown with isolation"? Practically all languages are in contact with each other, with the mighty exception of weird small island languages like Sentinelese, which we don't know anything about (but, considering it's spoken by a small tribe, it's likely it might be very complex).
>or that the ancestral speakers were literally immigrants/weren't educated enough to speak the language.
Is this a reference to pidgins and creoles?
>A prime example of this is Farsi.
wtf
Farsi, or all things???
The language where kids have to learn the basics of another language (Arabic) to get the derivation of new words right?
>>
>>69227619
Aye don't bully Farsi it's lit and it rhymes gtfo
>>
>>69227533
Hard to learn languages are just like that because of ancient elitism that's (probably) no longer around, and no one actually wants to change the language they already learned.
But you do have a point; a language that's easier to learn opens up the barrier of entry for people to become educated.

fuck off Canada

>It's retarded and just means that your ancestors lacked intelligence

What kind of shit tier bait is this?
>>
>>69227619
>An easier language signifies that either the language has become "ingrown" with isolation

This is objectively wrong. All signs point directly opposite of this.
The more people who have learned the language as adults historically in a language, the simpler the language will become. Take English for example. Normans raid England, many of them stay, they don't learn the language properly, so their simplicities live on through their children.
Compare this example to Icelandic. Incredibly isolated, and whereas all mainland scandinavian languages simplified over the centuries, Icelandic has remained very pure and very complex.

pretty much this
>>
>>69234050
>>
>>69234050
How... did they even measure complexity?
>>
>>69238045
It's only morphological complexity, they took the data from http://wals.info/, their complexity score is a set of linguistic features related to morphological complexity, like case marking, conjugation of verbs, presence of articles, coding of negation, etc., you can read the full article here http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0008559
