>>
>>69209666
Weighing in that 40% of modern English structures its vocabulary on old French words., then that's almost saying that 40% of Brits converse in French (eh, my logic here is quite mishappen but please do accept it).
But only 39% of the French speak English.
And 40% > 39%.
So the French have won ;3!

Hopefully I'm not being outsmarted by some mastrfully-engineered trolling, but what I was conveying earlier was moored in your own putrid tongue: "Butte aie doue noutte spique innegliche" = "But I do not speak english".
And yet we're the ones to be leisurely scoffed at for not knowing english.

Er is geen land zonder accent

Spain even these 20% are too high, with English only you are fucking lost there. France is extremely too high, max 20% as well, and every 2nd person in Germany speaking English? Sure, sure. The only countries in Europe where English is really spoken by a high % are Scandinavian ones and NL, of course not taking into account the native English countries.

People here over 35 never studied English in school, they studied either French (mostly) or German and then their local languages (Catalan, Basque, Galician/Portuguese), not kidding. Younger generations are more proficient in English.

I'm much younger and even when I went to school we studied French and German or as an option to those, reinforcement of English. As young as 8 years old I remember studying French but not English, yet suddenly the education system changed and we stopped to learn French as the primary foreign language and started with English, it was such a fucking mess (I barely remember anything of French because of that, sadly). In highschool we had like 3 to 5 hours of English at week, mostly, and if apart from this we didn't have to study Catalan (in my case) we would probably have more hours to dedicate to foreign languages. I think this is one of the biggest reasons of why Spaniards are so behind with this, apart from the fact that it is harded for a Romance language speaker to learn a Germanic language than it is for another Germanic language speaker. The grammar structure is completely different but the English pronunciation is what is especially hard for us, and we become easily frustrated and insecure about it, sometimes to the extent of even refusing to speak in English and pretending that we know less than we actually do, just to avoid having to speak it.

>>
holy fuck, belgium that low
i mean, i've been to flanders and literally 100 year old grannies spoke english, and very well
basically means that literally nobody in walonia or brussels can speak english if they bring the percentage down by that much
i mean, flanders is like 60% population and 90% speak english, just like in NL
>>
>>69209896
If Germany is at 25%, Italy is somewhere at 5-10%
>>
>>69210642
It really is not.
>>
>>69209497
we have the oldest population in europe, no shit we are statistically the worst at english
its not like people over 40 will start learning it now
