There was a documentary on the Balkan here on tv last year, in the Albania episode they interviewed a guy who had to remain inside (I don't remember whether it was a monastery, something similar, a place where he was safe according to canun) because if he would come out someone from the rival family would kill him immediately. And it wasn't something he did but his uncle.

It was some time ago, I don't remember all the details.

I do remember the guy who made the docu being invited somewhere and treated very hospitable, whereupon he said "I don't understand, every tourist guide warns that Albania is a dangerous country but you guys are all really friendly" and all the people around him looked visibly embarrassed and said nothing.
