>This Sunday, for the first time anyone can remember, Britain's Queen Elizabeth II missed Christmas church service. But she still spoke to her country through her annual Christmas Broadcast, which was prerecorded.

>The queen, who has a bad cold, spoke of being inspired by the medal winners from the U.K. in the Olympic and Paralympic games this year, as well as the doctors, paramedics and crew she met while opening a new base for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

>a """""bad cold"""""

the country will basically go into chaos for a while

and no, millions have grown up with the queen as our ruler, charles would have to earn his respect after years but even then he wouldnt be as liked. infact if the queen does die, it would make some question whether or not we should continue with the monarchy
>>
>>69116730

No it won't. We'll get a national holiday, a new statue or water fountain and lots of newsclips of people crying and then we'll go back to normal.

The Queen is dead, long live the King

>Are the heir to the throne as liked as her?
No. But the heir to the heir, Prince William (+ Kate) are extremely popular, on the same levels as the Queen

Also the Monarchy as an institution is seen as important by the British public, when the Queen dies the Monarchy go on

Like fuck will it go to chaos, you either haven't got a clue or you're too young to remember the queen mother dying
It'll be a few days of public mourning, Charles would most probably pass on the throne because he's too old and I don't think he really wants it after the Diana mess, plus William's been modelled for this job his whole life
Nothing will change whether Charles takes it or leaves it, maybe it'd be more culturally relevant around the world if it was Wills just because he'd be our poster boy and more generations can relate to him than Charles

Williams liked a lot more than Charles, plus the public would lap up the fact that George is next in line because he's just so kawaii desu ~

Charles may lack charisma but throughout his lifetime he has done fantastic things with all his grants and charities.
They raise like £100m annually.

It's kind of of sad it doesn't get acknowledged more by the press.
>>
>>69116888
I don't see Charles passing on it because of age or popularity. That family is big on tradition. The British royal family do things by the book unless there's a really good reason not to.

What will happen is Charles becomes King, but the new Prince of Wales, William, is given a very prominent role and goes to lots of the overseas visits and ceremonies.

I'm sure he still needs plenty of training before he can be a good King anyways

>>69116759
No way we're getting a national holiday. That's so unlike the Queen, she wouldn't want that. She'd want us to just get on with things as normal.
>>
>>69116759
>>69116888

>For at least 12 days — between her passing, the funeral and beyond — Britain will grind to a halt. It'll cost the British economy billions in lost earnings. The stock markets and banks will close for an indefinite period. And both the funeral and the subsequent coronation will become formal national holidays, each with an estimated economic hit to GDP of between £1.2 and £6 billion, to say nothing of organisational costs.

But to focus on the financial disruption doesn't begin to describe the sheer magnitude of it. It will be an event unlike anything Britain has ever seen before. There will be trivial disruptions — the BBC will cancel all comedy shows, for example — and jarring cultural changes. Prince Charles may change his name, for instance, and the words of the national anthem will be changed, too.

>>
>>69117022
Business Insider doesn't actually know what will happen. It will be different to the last monarch death which was so long ago. I doubt the BBC will start cancelling comedy shows this time round.
>>
>>69117008
>I'm sure he still needs plenty of training before he can be a good King anyways
They don't do anything, what training will they need. Their responsibility is to just smile at the camera.

I only like elizabeth II, after that no more loyalty from me
>>
>>69117022
>Le meme article
Do you legitimately believe that the economy will grind to a halt, all comedy cancelled and the Empire will reform?
>>
>>69117099
The comedy one is actual BBC policy.
>>
>>69117099
whether or not you believe the economy will grind to a halt, it is confirmed comedy will be cancelled for a week or so. that is fact
>>
>>69117080
>They don't do anything, what training will they need. Their responsibility is to just smile at the camera.
They do more than smile at the camera. They're ambassadors of the country. Read the queen's website it tells you about her schedule which is quite intense for a 90 year old lady.

>I only like elizabeth II, after that no more loyalty from me
I don't care who you like
>>
>>69117118
>The comedy one is actual BBC policy.
It was BBC policy in 1952, have you got a source from the BBC that it will happen this time?
>>
>>69117022
Sorry lad I didn't realise you had a source from a fortune teller, I can't compete with people who know the future

Or, you're just a dumb underage fuck who doesn't understand how concrete our monarch system is, the Queen Mother showed us that there will be lots of public mourning but no bullshit 'chaos', everyone would just get on with their lives
I'd say it'd be on the same level as when MJ / Bowie died

what a load of shite, the queen has touched the lives of more people than bowie. think how long liz has been around, bowie is a legend but its mainly middle aged people and champagne socialist students which were affected by his death. youre a retard if you think they'd even be on the same level

Serious question: how long do you guys reckon the English monarchy will survive?

With CoE attendance plummeting (it's at like 1%), their roles as heads of church are just ceremonial.

I understand they're popular with the white natives, but how long until the immigrants are a large enough group to take the monarchy out of power?

>>69117321
It'll be a big media show but few average people will probably care, except out of nostalgia.
I don't know how it is in the motherland but the queen is so far removed from daily life in Aus that not everyone knows that she's head of state.
>>
>>69117199
It won't be bigger than Diana purely because of the circumstances, her death was a lot more shocking

>>69117241
This whole post reaks of underage, you have to have been born in the 2000s

>>69117255
The Queen hasn't, she's just been the poster girl for the country. It's the money raised through their foundations (and our taxes) which touched all these people rather than her personally, and when she dies the mantle will simply be passed on and everything will carry on as normal

There would be a week max of postings on social media of how much everyone loved her and Top 10 Queen Lizzie Moments bollocks, but instantly the process will begin for moving Charles as her replacement and there would be no chaos of any kind, you're fucking retarded if you think the Queen herself is personally responsible for keeping everything together, when she does we will still wake up the next day exactly the same as before

I compared it to the deaths of those major artists because that's all there will be, public mourning and social media tributes but complete normality in our day to day lives, no chaos whatsoever
>>
>>69117384
well id say the reaction will be different in australia than it is in britain, either way the whole world will be watching and will know its a big deal

Nah, that's bullshit. The christmas speeches and pompous monarchy tradtitions only effect the british public. Bowie's music touched the hearts of men and women on a global scale.
