It was primarily a thing during the building of "Folkhemmet". A way to create national unity. If you were on TV you had to speak the standardised dialect, pretty much.

I am for a single first language worldwide- English. Could have the native language as a 2nd language. That doesn't mean I'm for mixing cultures. I'm very much against people coming into our countries and refusing to assimilate. It's why I have pretty much ruled out every non-English speaking country as a possible country to move to for job opportunities, because it would just be a hassle to learn yet another language, when I don't feel like I speak perfect English yet.
