Nope, I'm in the marine infantry. Sangaris (the name of the opération) was very low intensity, we were tasked with disarming the Muslims and anti-Muslims, who mostly went along with it. They sometimes shot at each other, but rarely at us. We lost 3 men in the two years the operation went on, and one of them was an accidental death. It was just patrols in shitty, hot, humid weather, and trying to get them to give us their shitty guns. The country is a mess, though. Wouldn't be surprised if the fighting broke out sooner or later, we've already had to intervene a bunch of times since their independence.

Mali was the only place we're we've had "real" fighting recently. It was fun as fuck, honestly. Weather was hot but not humid, people loved us, and we blew the fuck out of islamists in Toyota trucks, and then we got out.
