The funny thing about it is it has hard BASICS, basic words being homonyms with only tones differing, tones themselves, the thing where you have to declare that something is a bowl of something or a roll of something in place where you say 'a' in English (everything is 'a pair' of pants in Mandarin) etc. But after that there's nothing. No genders or words changing form with cases. Its a very minimalistic language, kind of like where English is going but went a lot further down that route.
