Québécois et l'Acadiens were subject to poverty and malnutrition for generations. At the onset of the world wars their average height and weight was well below that of Anglo conscripts.
However, Québécois have mostly caught up and aren't especially short. (Acadians are rather small because they still live in poverty but the Anglos around them are now shorter on average too)
