Not only can these fights cause serious injury, but they are the primary way that the feline immunodeficiency virus is transmitted, and also a common way for the feline leukemia virus to be transmitted. They're also much more likely to become infested with parasites like fleas and mites outdoors.

Neighbours are another factor. Not everyone takes kindly to having someone else's cat climb into their garden and use it as a toilet, for example, and this is very common. I've personally had to deal with a neighbour's cat coming to my house and picking fights with my (indoor) cat, who reacted by attacking the window and cutting her paw in the process. Depending on the law where you live, you may be legally responsible for damage caused by your animal, including damage dealt to other animals. And I myself would never think of doing anything to hurt my neighbour's cat, but not everyone is so sympathetic.

What do you ladchapm8s think of Irvine Welsh? Does he have any literary cred over there? Over here no one's fucking read any of his books, or maybe they've only read Trainspotting in a shitty Russian translation (and as a translator I'll tell you that even an incredible translation wouldn't do it justice at all), but everyone's a fucking expert who's dead positive it's just edgy shit for 15-year-olds like Chuck Palahniuk (who's actually rather good at times too, btw).

It took him a while to get there, but he's firmly in my Top 3 favorite writers by now, after Nabokov and Cormac McCarthy. Many people make the mistake of only reading Trainspotting and stopping there (or worse yet, watching the movie and thinking they know what the book is like), but it's not even the best out of the ones I've read, Glue is.

I really like his linguistic autism, but that's not the reason I like him so much. I guess the real reason is that one, he's really, really good at characters, and two, I can relate to his shit 100% because the people he writes about are pretty much my circles but with different names, accents and reasons to batter people of other brands of bydlo. I could easily take a random chapter from Trainspotting or its prequel, replace the names with those of people I know, tell it to someone from our circles and they'll totally fucking buy it.

Now it's essentially the same plot, same character arcs, same humour, etc. recycled over and over again in an endless amount of shitty comic book films, remakes and reboots.

I'm currently trying to decide whether Skagboys was better, tbqhwy. On one hand it has more brilliant moments (like the first chapter with the miner strike, or the one about the rehab clinic, or the whole story of how Rents dumped his gf for her own good and got on heroin; the last chapter is especially fucking good, heartwarming too which is the last thing you'd expect from a Welsh book). Did you dislike how "literary" Porno was too? Three acts, characters "deserving" their eventual fate, clear plotlines instead of being a raw collection of short stories loosely connected thematically and even more loosely in the narrative sense, etc.?
