People burnt their kids school books when they tried to introduce an written language (samnorsk) that was the middle ground mixing of the two.

Also spoken western norwegian is much more closer to nynorsk and eastern norwegian is much more closer to bokmål.

"Muh culture" is the right thing. The rural parts didnt like the danish imperialists, and created their own language. Imo it's just dumb. It is a shitty way of preserving our "heritage".

I read several wikipidia articles on the subject so I think I have a basic idea of what is going on. But when I compare your situation with, say, Germany or Austria or Netherlands, I think the main difference is that even though those countries have dialects they have always had a a standard written language so their dialects are spoken but not written. Yet Norway did not have a written language since Danish was spoken there. And when Norway became independent there was a need to create a written language. So that's how bokmal was created. But what happened next? Were some people unhappy because it was perceived as too "Danish" and so they came up with Nynorsk that was based on west norway dialects since they are they are the least "Danish"?

But I'll have to say bokmål is closer to how you spoke eastern norwegian then danish written is to danish spoken so it's not acutally danish no matter what the autists say.
