The question on its own doesn't make a lot of sense. With "aber" and "then" you refer back to something that was said or asked before.
The sentence is perfectly fine without "denn" though.

It's mostly some sort of slang, or spoken language. But the "denn" also emphasizes a bit more. The person who askes is implying that there is no snow lying, in your case. It's not really translatable into english.

In this case, the person thinks that you are underage. If you ask without "denn" it's just a generic question, if you are 18 but without implications.

it's just a weird a word, which is like it is. It's not connected to "lieb haben" or "lieben" because this means "to love"
