we are actually one of the hardest working countries in europe. we just dont normally eat at work, and have a break to eat at home, wich is misleadingly called "siesta" break for some reason outside of spain.

I sleep siesta everyday i can. Its great and make my afternoon more productivo. Dont know why you all think its something bad. Woke up at 6:30, work until 15:30 (leaving in few mins) in my case, arrive at home eat and take a 30 min or so nap. Considering i go to sleep at 01:00, the nap its a ver reasonable choice for me.

How is this thing measured? It correlates smoothly with GDP per capita. I don't believe that Spaniards are so much more productive than Estonians for example. We're just richer. When there is a holiday on Tuesday, Spaniards tend to get sick leave on that Monday. I haven't noticed this "puente" culture in France, Poland or Germany.

It is actually. Earlier this year foreign newspapers started publishing stories about how Rajoy intended to "abolish the siesta". Turns out for some reason foreigners call our long lunch break the "siesta" and assume everyone is sleeping instead of, well, having lunch, and they assumed that Rajoy's intentions (which were essentially to shorten the lunch break to make out workdays more like an anglo-style 9 to 5) were to stop people from taking naps. Odd, to say the least.

We have a long lunch break, but we spend it getting something to eat and having the "sobremesa" (which is essentially chewing the fat over a cup of coffee after lunch). We do finish work later though.
