Yes and no. The corruption was immensely worse 10-15 years ago when there were literally a lot of business sectors where you couldn't compete at all without having the right connections. Nowadays most industries aren't like that. Then again, if you want to smoke in a smokeless train you can pay the conductor like 100-500 rubles to alleviate the problem. Shit like that is quite common. But as the general perception in the west is that in Russia you can do anything you want with 500 dollars then that really isn't the case anymore.

Russian big cities run 24/7 unlike many cities in Europe. Moscow is the biggest city by far in Russia and in Europe so it's also the most vibrant/one of the most vibrant ones. There are all kinds of nightclubs, cheap vodka, vodka that'll make you blind, vodka that will make you cry, etc... It's nice. I don't know about Moscow's favorite Russian band, in many clubs they play a lot of western hits and Russian dance music that sounds exactly like western music but with Russian lyrics. I know Colombians, Venezuelans, Chileans and other South-Americans who have spent months in Russia or are spending immense amounts of time at the moment and I haven't heard that it would be bad for them. If you don't look like a regular Russian/Finn/Swede/Norwegian/German or other northern white person, then yes, you might very well be stopped from time to time by security/police, especially at train and metro stations.

Well, a couple of times I talked very casually with some Russians in clubs/bars etc... and after like 20 minutes they make comments like "do you like Hitler" "if Finland attacks Russia we fucking destroy you" or something like that :D. Those were pretty "wut the fug?"-moments as the discussion really wasn't political in any sense and then that sentiment usually died in like a minute or two and then we drank vodka again. Other weird thing was once in Дикcиe I was looking for coffee and two churkas came next to me to look for the tees. The traffic was quite chaotic and it was hard for me to understand some of the decisions the maintenance people make about renewing asphalt. For instance in SPB there was one 4 lane street of which half was closed for asphalt renewal and that caused insane traffic jams which Russian drivers dealt the way they seemed to deal with all traffic problems: by breaking all the possible laws, driving on the side of the road/on the incoming lane and just crushing into the crossroad and using the magnificent power of "I have bigger car than you so fuck you" to get through.

I also saw a police car that was being charged by another police car on the middle of the Nevsky Prospekt and the four police officers were just smoking cigarets there and not giving a single fuck.

Once a metroticket machine stopped working when I was trying to charge money on my card, one of those station ladies came there and tried to make it work for like 15 mins and after that she told me to follow her so she will give me back the money I lost. I followed her and waited like 5 more mins and she came back with a blanket that was like 3-4 pages long

and only in Russian. At that point I told her that I don't speak Russian and I'm from Finland and then she was a bit baffled and just wanted to just see my passport instead of filling that bloody document and after seeing it she gave me the like 250 rubles the machine took.

In Moscow I was a couple of days at a pioneer camp for a conference thingy. The place was quite interesting as the manager of that pioneer camp was some 50-year-old guy who was constantly wearing full-on camouflage uniform and tried to act like a military guy even though he was pretty fat. Also every morning there was some Russian radio stuff that started playing at like 7 am from loudspeakers all around the camp. The main hall of the camp still had retained a huge red star and in front of it there was an old Soviet jet-fighter with red stars as well. I haven't been in the Soviet Union but there I could feel it very well. I don't think the place has changed at all since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Those were the things from the top of my head, there were quite a lot of interesting things that happened in Russia and Russia is very very very different than for example Germoney.
