>be drunk as a skunk
>decide to play against a guy who's about 150 rating points higher than I am (he was ~1850 and I'm 1700 on chess.com)
>literally just moving my pieces completely at random
>play moves which seem like they should objectively somehow be very bad, but by pure chance they happen to just werk
>my opponent (who was playing with the black pieces) is an edgelord who plays the Benoni and tries to pull of tactical magic with an early exchange sacrifice
>I just move pawns at random and somehow all of his remaining minor pieces are frozen
>I win, with almost all of my time still remaining and him having used almost all of it
>I check with the computer afterwards and I actually played decently enough, despite making literally random moves
why am I only able to rely on my chess intuition when I'm drunk?

When I'm sober, I try to play blitz and play by intuition, but it NEVER works, I'm complete garbage.
>>
>>68532468
I could shit all over Carlsen if you allowed me to have a computer decide the moves for me

oh, forgot to mention, it was a 15/10 game

>>68532430
not just at master level, at all levels

But even with a 5/0 game it's possible to cheat. It's just an unfortunate reality of playing online. Supposedly lichess is extremely severe on cheaters though.

>>68532468
using a computer
>>
>>68532545
meh then what's the point?
>>
I play chess a lot better when I'm stoned, I take a lot longer to think in the opening and I often fuck up a lot or I miss a good move, but sometimes I get glorious games that I look back on and think to myself how the fuck did I come up with that
>>
>>68532514
>>68532589
Weed and alcohol is for degenerates.

Shame on you.
>>
>>68532566
like every single game/sport, some people are obsessed over winning and are willing to cheat in such ways, even though it's only a casual online game

That being said, I think the problem of cheating in online games is somewhat blown out of proportion. It exists, sure, but the overwhelming majority of games I play are still perfectly fine (I analyse my games with the computer once they're over).
>>
>>68532552
yea but thing is at low levels it's both a much more casual game and the cheating is much easier to discover, ie. a 1200 elo player is not going to average 7 centipawns lost for an entire game and perfectly answering every move while a master could conceivable just have a really good game
>>
>>68532606
well whatever, I am the one learning from good moves and not him
>>
https://lichess.org/4lmHmJld

COME FAGGOTS
>>
>>68532634
>while a master could conceivable just have a really good game
Even at master level, having an average 7 centipawn lost would be too good to be true. Heck, even at lower GM level, only 7 is quite low, considering Super GMs usually do more than that.
>>
>>68532661
jesus my grandma could play better then you
>>
>>68532719
bit rude chap
>>
>>68532719
wow bully
>>
>>68532706
I made up the number but the point is it's much more plausible for a really good player to have a great game than a complete amateur to play perfectly
>>
>>68532801
fair enough

I guess if you're that good then you're probably better off just playing on a site like lichess, which is much more strict on that sort of stuff. Or simply don't expect too much when playing online (anyway, let's face it, even when there's no cheating online play is always much more casual and lower-quality).
>>
gg whoever i played
>>
>>68532719
nicely played m8 :)

Lichess smartened up after I DDOSed their site using McDonald's wifi in retaliation of them banning me.

personally I'm pretty bad but my uncle is rated like 2000 and constantly worries about cheating when he plays online
think he uses chess.com not lichess though should point him to it

>>
>>68532962
ok :D
>>
>>68532920
why would you do that m8

lichess is pretty based, they were the first site to allow tons of free features which other sites used to force you to pay to get (or still do, in many cases), and they're the only one who have an open-source smartphone app which they leave for free on github, so as someone who has neither an iphone nor android, I find it quite useful.

analyze games and play a lot

If you're not sure what went wrong check your played games with an engine (Lichess has a good tool for this)

After a few moves I have no idea what move to make, then I spend a minute looking at the pieces just to end up doing a shitty one anyway.
It's kind of frustrating to play a game that keeps constantly bashing your head on how dumb you are. No wonder chess can't compete in popularity with shit like League of Legends.

>After a few moves I have no idea what move to make, then I spend a minute looking at the pieces just to end up doing a shitty one anyway.

Watch some youtube videos.

Play some games through a Chess engine.

Watch better people play.

The best thing about being a Novice is you have so much room to learn and grow. As you get better and better it gets difficult to make noticeable improvement as quickly as you can as a beginner.

>It's kind of frustrating to play a game that keeps constantly bashing your head on how dumb you are
git gud, it's easy. And you'll be proud of yourself.
