Nah I went through a stage of severe anxiety and was generally just a waste of cum and disappointment to the mother, so I did a PLC for a year and got all distinctions (which isn't fuckin' difficult in fairness) and went in a year after.

It was probably the best decision I made (if not a little late) since I had the time to realise that I was either going to disappointment the mother and end up like my father, or I was going to make something of myself. Since then I've gone from getting nervous about even going to the shops during the day and sleeping instead, to giving short speeches to crowds of 200 people with having no sort of work prepared - just doing it on impulse.

Rent is ridiculous, yeah. DCU has a lot of on-campus accommodation. I lived in the countryside, but still have family in Dublin so I live about an 45-90 mins away on the bus (depends on traffic).

I think UL, UCC and Maynooth have decent law courses but I'm not too sure.

I'd recommend working hard for the leaving. Well, hard is an overstatement I think you really only need about 400 points to get on a good law course.

The PLC is grand if you do shite in the leaving (so apply for both in case you don't get 400 points), but it's an extra year and you might regret not going straight into uni.

If you're still quite young going in (say 17), you could probably take the year out without missing out on much.

If you can fund it, sure. When you're abroad, it's pretty much sink or swim, which worked out very well for me for the couple months I lived abroad. I'd recommend doing a bit of research beforehand if you plan living somewhere, try to organise interviews or jobs with Irish-related stuff before you go there (e.g. email a bar about work and see how they reply and go from there). I'd also recommend having a full month and a half worth of rent in cash before doing anything. Nothing worse than being caught with no money. And spend the first week or so in a hostel. Be VERY patient. Don't bother with Airbnb unless you're flush with money. Myself and a friend went to Munich, spent 6 weeks there and ended up flying back early because not only did my friend get bate about the head, but we ended up behind on rent (you don't get paid every 1-2 months, you get paid monthly) thanks to fucking airbnb and its extortion.

You could probably go somewhere English speaking either, I presume you've family in the US or UK.
