>>68487395
We did experiment with that type of architecture unfortunately
Pictured is the most important site of Christian pilgrimage after Jerusalem and St Pietro's, the old basilica was unfortunately sinking.
In all fairness the idea is that you have a clear view of the image of the virging no matter where you're standing.
>an upside down ice cream cone with the bottom chopped off
>>68489150
kek, just realized that pilgrimage is precissely today.
>>68487395
It looks like one of those mega churches that are ran by pseudo-cult leaders.
Isn't religion supposed to be a spiritual thing? Doesn't that make overly dramatic churches kind of hypocritical?
>>68489258
Isn't it in two days?
I'm sorry world, it is indeed an aberration. It has no place in Rio.
>>68487395

The church in my grandma's village. It's a rotunda from 12th century. It also worked as a part of a bigger fort, having several embrasures.

The black bricks in the facade are from the original building, they have been meticulously cataloged and tested for their reusability before being put at their original place in the reconstruction.

This country is full of beautiful churches, the most important ones however... Aside from the basilica the Catedral Metropolitana needs some urgent work on the facade, I don't just mean restoration but actual missing details on the project as I don't think the result now is as originally projected, it certainly is missing some harmony. Funny how you can find some mindblowing beautiful churches in near deserted small towns but those which should be the most impressive tend to be rather underwhelming to say the least.
This kind of church is really common in rural farm areas
>>68490823
Quite a popular tourist site. Berliners call it jokingly the 'hollow tooth'.
This is the church where I live
>>68490926
Did you post the wrong picture? I don't see the church.

The decided to keep it as a war memorial and just build a modern room of worship next to it.
I case you didn't know, remembering the war is a pretty big thing here.
>>68487395

>>68490976

I actually had to google this to believe it, we do have buildings like that but usually theaters, museums or places related to the fine arts, not churches. Is there a story behind this?

This one really blew my mind although of course I had already read about it >>68491754
there's quite a few Cathedrals in Europe missing here (4 of which I visited) which are on the same level of spectacular and missing here.
The one fun detail on this binge reading on cathedrals was an American one however, and one with worthy architecture to boot, but it stands out for pictured. Now that's one no one else in the world is going to beat.
>>68497620
kek, that was pretty fast anon, it's a beautiful cathedral, sad to read it's underrated.

I feel like it would be a very odd thing to attend service regularly at a particularly famous church.
Do they even have a regular congregation or are the services only populated by those touring?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Family_of_Nazareth_Church,_Oulu
The Holy Family of Nazareth Church is a Roman Catholic church in the Koskela district in Oulu.
The church building, designed by architect Gabriel Geronzi, was constructed in two phases. Pope John Paul II blessed the cornerstone of the church on his visit to Finland in 1989. The first phase of the church building was completed in 1991. The second phase was completed in 2000.[1]

Operating in the parish since 1989, as of 2016 there are four neocatechumenal comunities in the parish.[3]

>>68499494
Thanks anon, it's a rather unusual design, I don't know if it borrows from local architecture or if it's meant to be modern, usually the floor plan for a Catholic church tends to be cross shaped.
Oulu is full of churches. Who the fuck even goes there?
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ylikiiminki_Church
likiiminki Church is a lutheran church of the Oulujoki parish in Ylikiiminki district in Oulu, Finland. The wooden neoclassical church was designed by Jacob Rijf and built in 1786.
