All they need is to pretend to be friends with EU and or USA. Also maybe joining NATO or EU would help.

Return Ukraine to Ukraine as a symbol of better times coming.

Imagine them joining EU and then getting all the euros. But the Putin is a strong man who will never allow such things.

Have their leadership bend over to the west instead of fighting this pointless cultural battle.
Their economy will boom, their people will begin to produce more media, and general welfare will increase.

Also they shouldn't be afraid to sell of some of their more useless land to jumpstart the economy.
