>In linguistics, grammar is the set of structural rules governing the composition of clauses, phrases, and words in any given natural language. The term refers also to the study of such rules, and this field includes morphology, syntax, and phonology, often complemented by phonetics, semantics, and pragmatics.

Contextual features of any language is the real challenge.

I'd recall reading one English teacher mentioning that he took his first practical Japanese lessons in a class where teachers were Japanese middle aged women. He learned idioms and other ways of speech only older women normally use. And then his Japanese friends started at some point telling him that he sounds like an old woman.

In my experience it seems like Japanese has more of this than english (although I think some of the distinctions between male and female speech styles are disappearing with the younger generations)

As someone who studied and/or speaks Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Persian and Arabic, I'd say that the hardest by far is Arabic, it's not even close. the problem with arabic is that its grammar system is so different that if you are used to only indo European languages , you will find it very weird and difficult , as a guy who learned arabic and french from childhoold i gotta say that arabic can be simpler than french in alot of cases especially conjugation where Arabic has only 2 tenses which is an awesome pro

The difficulty with Arabic (coming from a native English speaker who also speaks French) is mostly that there are patterns within the language (broken plurals for instance) that are simply more intuitive to native speakers.

>>68370784
Spoken Arabic, sure. Classical Arabic is definitely not. And considering the fact that there are 500 million words in Arabic (largely due to the weird-as-fuck grammar) I wouldn't say vocab is that easy either.
