How come Americans don't eat sheep/lamb, is it a religious thing?

I don't know. I guess it's because there's not a lot of sheep here but I don't know why.

it would probably be doable to import them and grow your own population

There's a lot of goats and sheep though I believe most people just use the milk and cheese

I've tried it, doesn't really appeal to me tbqh. I'm more of a steak and chicken person myself.
No they just don't taste as good as cows, which are better suited for our grazing lands anyway.
People eat lamb but it's not nearly as popular as cows and pigs.
Also there was a battle over cows vs sheep.

Saw sheep, made me excited
We do, but it's not as common as the other 3 meats. I believe it's because the flavor is a bit gamey for the American palate. There's also the whole "aww pwetty wittle wamb" thing.
The northern Great Plains have a lot of sheep, and places like Boise ID have huge Basque populations, so they're more popular there.
I like me a good Shepherd's pie a couple of times a year.
Because.

I love it, and they always have 1 or 2 cuts at grocery store, normally shoulder, and chops, leg and ribs/rack are the next most common
Once i found lamb breast super cheap, best cut for the money...
It's considered "gamey" here, and it's expensive compared to alternatives...
We are a nation that enjoys chicken breast too much.

More of a taste thing, I guess. I didn't really notice this, actually. I've been getting used to it.

I eat lamb often, I'm one of the biggest sheep breeders in my area though, so comes with the territory.

There are lots of sheep here, I think the problem stems from two main problems, people associate lamb with wealth/luxury for some reason and are unwilling to try it (no idea why, but I've heard this from a lot of people) and people don't care for the taste of they ever do try it.
As it stands now my biggest buyer is a dog food company and lots of minorities (mainly Greek) buy one or two at a time.
I like lamb, but I don't care for mutton.
Typical American.
We eat lamb. They sell it in every grocery store. It's more of a once in a while thing though.

Lamb is a shitty meat.
