You don't and can't address the issue of bigotry by making it illegal to express such things. The same way you can't stop alcohol consumption through prohibition. That only serves to drive it underground where it multiplies violently without any resistance. Bigotry and hate has to be addressed in the public space, without fear of legal action.

The reason we have come so far is not because we have laws against it, it's through public discussion and a political will to change things. And in my opinion we've gone too far, now we're so afraid of being perceived as intolerant or discriminatory that we're being taken advantage of. These things always have to be done in moderation, to discourage hatefulness while maintaining self-worth.
