Sadly no, the kolt IS a traditional garb, but the colors and the overt nature of the modern one is as much a meme as other Folk Costumes, and wearing it for everyday wear like some do is cringy as all fuck.

I remember reding a book about wars that Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was waging against Sweden in 17 century. At some point there was a bit where Poles captured some Swedish encampment, where there ware some Sami servants. They would pick them up by their coats "like pups", because they never saw people so small.
That leads me to conclusion, that Sami looked much different than they do now, when they arent so isolated anymore.
