I literally have no idea what you're even trying to say. Are you talking about an éventail ?

Also, you're completely and utterly deluded if you think European francophones are somehow immune to anglicisms. I could just as easily cherrypick a very specific sentence which would have just as many anglicisms. But it would be just like the sentence you posted: extremely cherrypicked and not at all natural sounding (not to mention probably wrong in some respects, just like the sentence you posted).
>>
>>68212607
>Québec is almost 3x bigger than France, that is already the biggest European country

Yeah, and Quebec has a smaller population than the Paris metropolitan area, literally all of whom live along the St. Lawrence river in the south of the province.

>>

>Are you talking about an éventail ?

Yes.

And if I say this, it's because I heard all of them when I was there (even if, as you said, I somehow blended everything to make it more caricatural).

My point is not to deny the fact European languages have some anglicisms, it was just to say Québec is bitching a lot about this while using MUCH MORE of them than any European country.

1) it's full of injuns who live worse than fucking Africans and cost us a fortune compared to what they provide

2) it's extremely remote, thus making it very difficult to actually turn any sort of profit on it (just look at the insane amount of money they initially wanted to spend in the Plan Nord just on building a single fucking road)

3) Our politicians are corrupt spineless fucks who give away our ressources to foreigners in exchange for extremely temporary gains. In fact, it's been like this for pretty much our entire history (which shows just how much of a fucking colonial mentality we've always had), and it's the main reason why nowadays all of Mauricie is a shithole, as well as towns such as Gagnon, Schefferville, Thetford Mines, Asbestos, etc.

My honest opinion is that we should just entirely give up on all clay that's just populated by injuns (while still keeping our glorious hydroelectricity, of course). It would solve quite a lot of problems.

Much more? Not really. I agree that in colloquial speech it's definitely more, but if you look at more formal speech Europeans use quite a bit more. And it also depends on the exact topic, for example when talking about auto mechanics, Québécois use way more anglicisms, but when talking about clothing French use way more.

Point is, don't overestimate your own linguistic situation; you aren't good by any means, even when compared to us (which is saying a lot).

very nice place.

there's plenty of jobs, free healthcare, beautifull landscapes, hot weather during summer and lot of snow during winter (less than before tho)

Because we have some socialist habits, by paying lots of taxes and by getting plenty of free services provided by our government, we are very open minded and treat eachother equally.

We are a relatively small nation in a ocean of anglophones (Canadians to the west and Americans to the south) so I dont think that theres something that could make a Quebecer more happier than to so see someone that decided to move to Québec/ came to Québec on vacation / or when a company from Québec succeed around the globe or when our culture do. We are always happy to meet new people.

Pardon my shitty english by the way.

But like everywhere, nothing is perfect.

We are francophone, but we (unfortunately) are still part of Canada.

Being a small nation of 8 million people surrounded by nearly 380 million anglophones scares the shit out of us. So we are always stressing about our culture's future.

That being said, when we see immigrants that does not integrate our society, some of us might get irritated. Especially when those people are anglophones, because that gives us the feeling that we're getting infiltrated by our supreme ennemy; the anglophones (lol, but true). Reason why we are overly happy to see immigrants speaking french.

anyway, i think that we are cool people, not worse or better than other, and that Québec is a very nice place to live or to visit.

and if i have one advice for you if you wanna have a good opinion of Québec: ask anybody but not a Canadian (they hate us more than we hate them), especially on 4chan cuz everybody is always mad here lol.

well, with any reserve, due to their near-autonomy, its definitely a case by case basis, but still, the few reserves ive seen have high levels of crime and asymmetrical wealth distribution to say the least
>>68214965
it's not particularly that you would want the land, it's the headache of firmly agreeing with each and every native tribe in your province on land disputes, whether or not some would stay, if they stay writing up a new set of laws dictating native rights and autonomy, etc

there are at least 11 distinct native groups in your nation, each with several reserves, so it would be a long process of going over this

after the FLQ terrorism that killed several high ranking individuals within the province, proactive intelligence actions were even justified by a french canadian prime minister

the only reason that the FLQ even died out was because of the mass arrests during Pierre's administration, which gave him thorough and broad information about the terrorist activities

whether the acts or justifiable or not, they usually end up saving lives and stopping domestic terrorism

How good does my French have to be to get by in Montreal? Je connais francaise ecrite et quelque francaise diré. Je veux a ameliorer mes francaise et devenir bilingual.

Also, I know that there are a few officially English municipalities in Montreal (15% of the population are Anglophones) where everything is in English, but the rest of the city outside those Anglo enclaves is French.

In these ridings the "No" vote was dominant, and the proportion of rejected ballots was 12%,[121] 5.5% and 3.6%.[122][123] Thomas Mulcair, member of the Quebec National Assembly for Chomedey, told reporters that there was "an orchestrated attempt to steal the vote" in his riding.[121] A study released months after the referendum by McGill University concluded that ridings with a greater amount of "No" votes had a higher percentage of rejected ballots.Directeur général des élections du Québec (DGEQ), Pierre F. Cote, launched an inquiry into the alleged irregularities, supervised by the Chief Justice of the Quebec Superior Court, Alan B. Gold. All ballots of the three ridings plus a sample of ballots from other ridings were examined. The inquiry concluded that some ballots had been rejected without valid reasons, but the incidents were isolated. The majority of the rejected ballots were "No" votes, in proportion to the majority of the valid votes in those districts."

It dates back in time from when there was Upper Canada and Lower Canada.
Lower Canada was basically land that the British gave to the French colonists to shut them up and not revolt despite having a distinct, non English culture. There was always a sort of animosity between the two.

Eventually in the post WW2 era Quebec started growing discontent with the way Anglophone businessmen were treating them.
There were the rich anglos and the poor proletariat francophones. Companies like Pepsi and Coca Cola highlight this devide where Coca would fail to Pepsi in highlighting the desires of the lower wealth income bracket.

At some point a nationalist lead Quebec through what many call the dark years where economic stability rained but human rights of city workers got worse.
He got into power and stayed there for something like 13 years transforming the province into a place that hates the anglo capitalist pig.
Sentiment like that has mostly died down since then, but there's still a sort of "Those guys over there" feel between the two provinces and anti capitalist sentiment.

1755 to 1764: deportation of the acadians

1760: conquest of Nouvelle France by the british

>Occupation; french elites go back to France, Catholic clergy stays

1774: Acte de Québec - Brewing revolution in the 13 colonies, the british want to prevent a war on two fronts and give french canadians almost everything they've been asking for ( french civil law and the right to remain catholic ) therefore french canadians don't join the united states.

1837-38 - «Rebellion of the patriots»: 4000 lower canada nationalists (mainly french canadians but scots and irish were among the leaders) lead a revolt against the british but are quickly defeated by a force of 33 000 loyalists and orangists (basically protestant supremacists). Hundreds are deported to Australia, the leaders are hung (not far from where I live actually...).

1840 - Act of Union (constitution adopted in Great Britain) abolishes legislative assemblies of Upper Canada (Ontario) and Lower Canada (Québec) and institutes one legislative assembly for all of Canada. Article 41 states that all legislative documents will be made only in english. This is later changed. East Canada (Québec) is now more populous than West Canada and majoritarily french but the executive council is essentially named by the colonial powers and has really most of the political powers.

>Only real position of prestige open to french canadians is clergy while other positions of power and wealth accumulation are held by english

1867 - British North America Act - basically the constitution of Canada but often amended

1885 - Execution of Louis Riel, a prominent Métis (mix of french and native) nationalist from Manitoba for rebelling against Canada. He was loved by french canadians and his execution angered many.

WW1: Canada institutes draft to fight on behalf of the british crown. Angers many french canadians including mayor Camilien Houde who goes to prison for telling french canadians to defy the draft.

WW2: Another draft. People are angry again although many french canadians went voluntarily like litteral supersoldier Léo Major ( read up on the guy, it's crazy). Angry draft dodgers are then ashamed of themselves when concentration camps are discovered. Fun fact: future prime minister René Lévesque was a war correspondent and saw first hand the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp while attached to the american army's 45th division. He was profoundly affected by it.

1950's: called «the great darkness» in Québec when a conservative nationalist politician called Maurice Duplessis reigned over the province. His campaign slogan? «Heaven is blue, Hell is red.» referring to the red logo of the opposing liberal party. He is often seen accompanied by the archbishop. Counties that voted for him would have their roads paved, counties that did not wouldn't so you would get paving, gravel, paving on the same road. Some hydroelectricity companies started popping up but the service was very uneven across the province with some regions still not having electricity.

1960: Election of Jean Lesage's liberal party. Slogan: «Masters in our own home.» One of the most transformative political mandates ever.
1961: Québec medical insurance
1961: First Québec delegation established in Paris
1962: Minister of natural ressources René Lévesque nationalises Hydroelectricity and forms Hydro-Québec which will become an enormously important and profitable State asset.
1963: Québec delegation to London
1964: Education is nationalised, secularized and mandatory until 16 years old.
1965: Quebec Deposit and Investment Fund created; Québec national pension fund created

> This period is called the quiet revolution and is characterized by extremely rapid modernisation, urbanisation and deconfessionalization. Historians sometimes extend it into the 70's up until the first referendum.
>>
>>68218172

It's pretty true except there is no hard evidence of the «no» side cheating in the 1995 referendum. There is some evidence that they may have spent more money on their campaign than they were allowed but the election itself had so many international observers that I doubt there was considerable election fraud. Not 100% sure though. Canadian authorities likely would've wanted to «save» their country as it is by any means... Mostly, though, québécois were divided right down the middle. It separated some families and now people hate to think about another referendum. I blame french canadians in the Québec City region who didn't majoritarily enough for independance because they're bureaucrats and cucks.

1970 - October crisis: federal minister of transport Pierre Laporte and british diplomat James Cross are kidnapped by the Québec Liberation Front. Pierre Laporte is later found dead in the trunk of a car. War measures act: rights are lifted. People linked closely or not to the independance movement are arrested for no reason. Students, professors, artists, writers, etc. Strong interrogations. Mock executions even. Dictatorial stuff in a modern democracy. Breeds even more resentment from nationalists towards Ottawa.

1976 - election of the Parti Québécois of René Lévesque, an openly separatist party. anglos lose their shit. Another terrific and transformative mandate.

1977 - Bill 101 officialises the primacy of french in the province of Québec. Everyone is now required to send their kids to french schools unless at least one of the parents went to an english school. Anglos lose their shit even more. They haven't stopped about this one since.

Pierre-Elliot Trudeau says to the american congress that a secession of Québec would be a «crime against the history of mankind». Pulling no punches there.

1980 - first referendum. 60% vote to stay.

1995 - second referendum. 94% of the population votes. 50,6% vote no.

>The rest of Canada obviously gets butthurt at those attempts at secession and amplify their denigration of french canadians which is best exemplified by the David Levine affair

>Lake meech accord fails, the québécois feel betrayed

2000's: A project to fusion all the municipalities of the island of Montreal in one city is implemented despite west island anglos being butthurt that they will have to live in the same municipality as the french canadians of the rest of the island. The now anglofied liberal party promises to defusion them, they lock down anglo counties forever and win and defusion them.

Now we again have a liberal government and they might be the shittiest that this province has ever seen.
