I think it is because of the public funding that you can get if you are a foreign student, so Danes feel that foreigners are leechers, even though the law states that in order to get that funding you have to work at least 12 hours a week, even if you are an EU citizen (this requirement does not exist for Danish students, ie they do not have to work at all).
