So kind of like Lapland except our winter lasts longer (October to early/mid April) and it doesn't usually get warmer than 0C/32F. -50F/-45,5C is not too common here though, usually coldest temps are somewhere between -38 and -45 with the occasional cold years where it can drop to -50C/-58F

My Dad grew up in a small town there.
He loved it, it was an all white town, everyone knew each other, he hunted a lot, and he loved the mountains. His mom was a german farm child with 7 brothers and sisters. They have a lot of fruit trees.
